Job Description:
BCS, LLC is seeking a mid-level communications professional with at least 5 years of communication or energy experience who is ready to join our growing team. The communications analyst will support our client, the U.S. Department of Energy, which is focused on achieving a carbon pollution-free power sector by 2035 and an irreversible path to achieve net-zero emissions, economy-wide, by no later than 2050.
The pay range is between $85,000-$95,000 (salary).
Responsibilities:
- Developing fact sheets, presentations, press releases, blog posts, and news items as required.
- Coordinating with other DOE Offices on behalf of client for public announcements and congressional engagement strategies. Writing and scheduling social media content for X (formally Twitter), LinkedIn, etc.
- Creating and preparing internal communication products such as memos, presentations, and executive summaries intended for DOE.
- Contributing to upcoming communications campaigns.
- Maintaining existing communications.
- Refreshing existing brands (color scheme, possible logo, fonts). Working with our internal graphics department on communications products.
- Developing upcoming communication products based on client and Administration priorities.
- Developing a communications operating plan for the next 6 to 12 months, including potential products, web content, social media, announcements, etc. Refining high-level messaging based on current administration priorities and budget direction.
- Reviewing website, providing suggestions for enhanced messaging, content, and audience engagement. Identifying out of date content and areas for improvement. Developing website maintenance strategy. Reviewing and accessing new content.
- Managing critical program administrative tasks and day-to-day activities that ensure program impacts (e.g., develop and maintain contact databases, tracking online content engagement via Google Analytics).
- Other tasks include ad hoc communications and stakeholder engagement.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field is required, Master’s degree a plus.
- Minimum of 5 years of overall professional experience.
- Strong writer; must be able to write about complex and technical content without losing the big picture.
- Proven ability to tell stories in a variety of formats: web, fact sheets, power point presentations, briefs, digital media, and social media.
- Good visual eye; must be able to advise on how to represent DOE’s technologies and mission across multi-media.
- Ability to handle multiple deadlines and complete assignments with minimal supervision in a fast-paced workplace.
- Impeccable organization and attention to detail. You get satisfaction from producing polished work and managing smooth and orderly processes.
- Knowledge of various style guides and rules of grammar and punctuation.
- Experience tailoring content to different audiences' needs and levels of understanding.
- Ability to identify improvements in the client's processes or offerings and recommend solutions.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with U.S. Department of Energy
- Understanding of the U.S. electric grid
- Experience with writing/editing on the topic of energy
- Experience with government consulting
- Knowledge of the client's communications channels and client culture
- Experience working with federal clients
- Solid understanding or experience with renewable energy
- Experience working towards sustainability goals
