The Communications Manager is a full-time position (40 hours/week) that creates, leads and implements the Association’s communications process.
Specific responsibilities include:
1. Developing the Island Report each month to help inform members, including:
a. Supervising the contract employee who is directly responsible for production of the monthly issues
b. Writing articles, including research, interviews and fact checking, as needed
c. Ongoing development of story ideas, managing future and past topic lists
d. Editing all article submissions
e. Developing relationships with current advertisers to help increase ad sustainability
f. Soliciting additional advertisers on an ongoing basis
2. Continually developing and implementing timely communication strategies for pertinent audience messaging, utilizing various BHA communications tools.
3. Creating the Annual Report package, including the Annual Report, Smith Island Social menu, proxy return envelope mailing envelope.
4. Creating and updating Association’s collateral materials, including a Welcome Package, property owner resource sheets, BHI Basics and more.
5. Updating BHA documents and online fillable forms annually/as needed and posting online, including Design Guidelines, Dues/Taxes and Community Wide Standards.
6. Maintaining and updating the Association’s website monthly annually/as needed, including crisis communications, archiving and news.
7. Creating additional web pages as needed for timely and easy member access to information, such at the BHITA, Operation Re-Forest — We Forest and Honor Tree map, hurricane updates and resources.
8. Researching and executing website enhancements and timely communications with members.
9. Researching and utilizing website trends with analytics to ensure communication effectiveness.
10. Utilizing Zoom for online meeting groups and posting Board meeting links and post- meeting recordings on the BHA website.
11. Organizing, promoting, recording and live streaming various timely information and education events to benefit members, including a Village of BHI forum for Council candidates, and all allowing 24/7/265 viewing.
12. Posting reliable information and appropriate links on pertinent social media sites to assist understanding and benefit BHA members.
13. Crisis communications — writing BHA statements, updating website and applicable social media with timely, essential resources from local, state and national governmental entities.
14. Developing new BHI Community Directory, incorporating BHA database for property owner listing, developing and managing business listing, creating BHA information pages and developing and managing advertisement lists and communications.
15. Creating signage as needed, implementing QR code technology for real-time information and working with partner BHI organizations.
16. Developing and tracking annual budget, while researching and incorporating cost savings where possible.
17. Managing expenses and approving vendor invoices.
18. Managing vendor relations with printers, sign makers and others for quality and cost-savings.
19. Writing and amending BHA policies for Island Report editorial and advertising, BHA social media and others as needed.
20. Creating presentations and updates for the BHA Board of Director meetings as needed.
21. Creating event posters as needed, posting on BHI bulletin boards and on the BHA website.
22. Managing Association Center A/V equipment for the BHA Annual Meeting, other organizational meetings and rental events.
23. Responding to general communications needs of the organization, including responding to the general email from the website.
24. Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
· Two years of college-level course work in communications/marketing or an Associate’s degree in a related field and five years of related experience.
· A combination of appropriate education and experience may be substituted for the minimum education and experience requirements.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
· Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in communications/marketing or a related field.
· Previous experience developing communications materials, with direct responsibility for design, layout and production.
· Intermediate working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro), graphic design software (InDesign, Photoshop) and HTML/CSS.
· Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
· Ability to plan, develop and coordinate multiple projects with competing deadlines.
· Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
· Excellent grammar and proofreading skills.
· Previous experience working in a professional environment.
· Must be self-motivated and a self-starter to take the initiative when needed.
· IT/audio-visual fluency a plus.
