Project Surveyor – Survey & Mapping
Position description: The Survey and Mapping Project Surveyor possesses good knowledge pertaining to various common types of surveys (i.e. topographic, boundary, as-built, construction, etc.) along with the field and office techniques necessary to achieve each type. Ability to understand and assist managing all survey office related activities along with general subsurface utility engineering knowledge are a must.
This position is primarily office based but will require field visits for quality assurance/quality control field reviews, preparing proposals, and/or training and assisting field associates. Responsibilities include a combination of the following, but are not limited to:
Office Work: Directly performs all necessary office production relating to assigned survey and mapping projects. Consciousness in monitoring schedules and budgets to ensure assigned projects are completed on time and within the negotiated contract amount is requested. Works closely with the Survey & Mapping Field Manager and the Project Manager to: select the most appropriate survey instruments and processes to perform field-related activities in a cost-effective and professional manner, ensure an accurate log of all field activities and safety forms, and ensure that any necessary permits are fully and correctly completed. Responsible for producing quality and timely deliverables. Uses gathered project and historical information to appropriately plan and execute the most efficient process to achieve the desired type of survey deliverable.
Training and Operations Support: Assists with training field and office staff as applicable and in relation to specific methods and procedures. Assists promoting a professional atmosphere conducive to learning along with providing quality services to the clients we serve.
Requirements and Qualifications: Good base understanding of the surveying and mapping industry in Florida, for both design and construction work. Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills, good knowledge of databases, software packages (MicroStation, GEOPAK, AutoCAD Civil3D), GIS and geospatial platforms, general understanding and knowledge of project management and scheduling of field and office resources to meet project schedules.
A Bachelor's Degree in Surveying or related field of study from an accredited college or university*, licensed as a Professional Surveyor (PSM) in the State of Florida, or ability to obtain licensure within 12 months; 4+ years of experience as Survey Technician or Project Surveyor and valid Florida driver’s license required.
* The Bachelor’s Degree in Surveying or a related field of study will be waived for a candidate possessing a Florida Professional Surveyor and Mapper (PSM) or Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license.
