Assistant Science Stockroom Manager - 502543
SUMMARY:
The purpose of the Assistant Stockroom Manager position is to help the Science Stockroom Manager support the research and teaching mission of the Chemistry, Biology and Physics Departments as well as occasional support of faculty from other departments working in Gottwald. This position helps to ensure that adequate stocks of chemicals, gases, and various additional supplies are available to support teaching and research needs in the Gottwald Science Center.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

Liaise and communicate with the Stockroom Manger on a daily basis

Support the Stockroom Manager in all aspects of stockroom operations, including shipping and receiving materials, and serve as a backup to the Stockroom Manager as needed

Support the Stockroom Manager with maintaining inventories of solvents, chemicals, gases and laboratory supplies in the stockroom as well as updating the Vertere barcoding system.

Help maintain satellite storage areas for solvents and miscellaneous laboratory supplies within the departments

Support the Stockroom Manager with receiving and distributing supplies to faculty, students and Lab Managers as necessary

Help Keep the stockroom secure

Place orders >$5,000 in the Procurement system. Contact vendors directly to initiate new vendor set up or to update quotes as needed. Coordinate with faculty to write Sole Source letters if needed and obtain all signatures required. Review quotes for Terms and Conditions for compatibility with University requirements, contact vendors to request necessary changes, and upload to the Contract Management system for approvals. Obtain all approvals for requisitions and payment of subsequent invoices.
- Provide support to the Stockroom Manager for placing and tracking orders (<$5,000) as requested by faculty and Lab Managers.

Securing bids and best prices for equipment, supplies, and services by obtaining multiple quotes when appropriate.

Order and exchange gas cylinders in the Biology and Chemistry laboratories. Maintain departmental cylinder count within contract limits.

Monitor/order bulk liquid nitrogen and gasses for Chemistry.

Order dry ice deliveries and maintain dry ice stock in the Chemistry department.

Helps coordinate monthly biohazardous waste pickup

Pay bills for gases, dry ice, cryogens, Biohazardous waste disposal, lab coat service, and maintenance for DI water systems.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Possesses strong technical aptitude

A strong background in chemistry and chemistry related issues (hazardous materials, safety, chemical storage, etc.)

Technical competency in chemistry

Appropriate document tracking skills

Familiarity with DOT & IATA regulations, shipping infectious materials, Biomedical waste handling, and commercial invoice export requirements. Radiation training required for ordering and receiving incoming isotopes.

As the position requires significant interaction with students, faculty, staff, and vendors, good interpersonal skills are a must

Competency in general computer software: e.g., Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree chemistry or closely related area required

Depending on nature of the person's formal education, 0-5 years experience required
WORK HOURS:

Full-time, non-exempt position

Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; 7.75 hrs./day; 38.75 hrs./week
SALARY STRUCTURE:
Pay Grade 6 (Hiring Range: $47,154.00 to $62,483.00 annually)
