Under immediate supervision, the Groundskeeper landscapes and maintains grounds of property using hand tools, power tools or miscellaneous equipment. Employee typically performs a variety of manual tasks which include any combination of sod laying, mowing, trimming, planting, watering, fertilizing, digging, raking, and sprinkler systems.
1. Maintains lawns by mulching, aerating, weeding, grubbing and removing thatch and trimming trees as well as cultivating, trimming and edging around flower beds, walks and walls.
2. Mixes, sprays and spreads fertilizers, herbicides or insecticides onto grass, shrubs and trees, using hand or automatic sprayers or spreaders.
3. Position requires driving and operating motor vehicles and other equipment.
4. Mows and edges lawns, using power mowers, weed eaters and edgers.
5. Plants seeds, bulbs, foliage, flowering plants, grass, ground covers, trees and shrubs and applies mulch for protection using gardening tools.
6. Attaches wires from planted trees to support stakes.
7. Decorates gardens with stone and plants.
8. Follows planned landscaping designs to determine where to lay sod, sow grass or plant flowers and foliage.
9. Collects, gathers and removes trash cleans drains, gutters and ditches, and empties litter barrels on a daily basis.
10. Hauls or spreads topsoil.
11. Maintains irrigation systems including winterizing the systems and starting them up in spring and manually watering grass, trees and shrubs.
12. Performs janitorial work which include sweeping, mopping, emptying wastebaskets and cleaning litter from facilities.
13. Performs specialized departmental duties as assigned
ADDITIONAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
1. Assists on other job related assignments when requested.
2. Performs light construction work, such as labor needed to setting forms, minor repairs to buildings, and maintaining comfort structures.
3. Drives pick up truck or other vehicle.

Minimum Requirements
1. An accredited high school diploma or GED equivalent is preferred.
2. Job requires a valid Class "C" Texas Drivers License.
3. At least one (1) year of related work experience is preferred.
4. Must be able to communicate effectively in the English language.
5. Must use good judgment and exercise safety procedures.
6. Must be able to repair and use maintenance tools.
7. Must have knowledge of chemical properties and how to use, detect and avoid chemical dangers as well as how to dispose of chemicals.
8. Must maintain a responsible and helpful demeanor at all times.
1. Job requires lifting and carrying 10-30 lbs. grasping, pulling, repetitive motion, reaching, pushing, wearing safety equipment on a regular basis. Some equipment used, occasionally, may be heavier.
2. This position requires working outside under different weather conditions (heat, cold., etc).

2. This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
3. Job requires working occasional evenings, weekends, holidays and during hurricane or other emergencies, etc.
4. This position requires to be on-call for work when needed.
