The Psychologist will be part of an interdisciplinary team in providing supportive coaching for patients in the Lifestyle Medicine Program within Primary Care. The Psychologist gives patients the opportunity to strengthen their mental health, address disordered/ emotional eating and trauma, to achieve their behavior change goals.
1. Provides psychological evaluation and support to patients engaging in intensive therapeutic change in Lifestyle Medicine.
2. Addresses psychopathology, body image, self-esteem, social support, quality of life, depression, PTSD or other history of trauma, and disordered eating. Service will be anchored in the context of lifestyle medicine and plant-based nutrition.
3. Creates safe, therapeutic environment for patients with obesity and other chronic health conditions.
4. Utilizes motivational interviewing techniques to support lifestyle changes.
5. Participates in development of treatment plans in coordination with medical provider, registered dietitian, and health coach.
6. Develops differential diagnoses for patients and ensures proper referral to MD for medication evaluations as needed.
7. Coordinates with psychiatrist when needed in managing patient’s overall care.
8. Participates and leads various group meetings, including but not limited to emotional eating, mindfulness, stress reduction, body image and support groups.
9. Provides documentation of clinical services as per departmental guidelines
10. Assist with case management needs for a complex population that faces many barriers in the community.
11. Participates in continuing education and/or other appropriate activities to maintain current licensure.
12. Undergoes training in nutrition and lifestyle medicine as offered by the program.
13. Supervises psychology interns and externs, Level I psychologists as assigned by the Director of Psychology.
