Adult man with special needs seeking (1) PART-TIME (Wednesday thru Saturday) Personal Assistant to assist with activities of daily living, community integration, & development of job skills. Looking for motivated self-starters who are dedicated, dependable, reliable, patient, experienced in crisis management & can work independently. Must be able to keep up with active adult. Must have reliable transportation.
Job Type: Part Time, Wednesday thru Saturday, 4-6 hrs a day, up to 30 hrs a week depending on availability.
Education: A background in special education and/or behavior management is a must. Examples: DSP / Behavior Technician / Behavior Therapist / RBT / BCBA / ABA Therapist / MANDT / Special Education Teacher, and similar. Do not apply if you have no experience with behavior. Having a disabled family members does not always qualify you as having experience. Must be certified in CPR & First Aid & have documentation of on-line as well as in-person training.
Required licenses or certifications:

· Driver’s License
The position is under Md Dept of Health / DDA's Self Direction Waiver. It is held in the participant's house. He is legally your employer but his parents are his legal guardians and oversee the operation. Payroll is administered via FMSC-ARCCCR. The position is monitored by an independent support broker & a service coordinator through Service Coordination. The FMSC-ARCCCR will do a background investigation after selection. You will need paper documentation of online & in-person CPR & First Aid certification.
Participant is employed in online family used bookstore called Paper Garden Books LLC. (http://www.papergardenusedbooks.com). His current jobs are to put books into inventory & retrieve them for orders; File receipts; thank you notes & writing a book review for the website.
There is a Community Based outing 2x a week. Participant has social anxiety so it’s important to get him out into the environment.
Participant needs to work on self care, household jobs, interacting in the community, exercise, making the bed, cleaning up books, sweeping, washing clothes, washing dishes, hanging & folding clothes, basic food prep, trash removal, etc.
Participant is under the care of a medical team. He has severe behavior and a BIP. When he is unable to express himself, behavior occurs. This behavior can manifest as biting, scratching, stomping, & throwing things. His parents are working with his medical team to get this under control & phase out the behavior. You will need experience in crisis management and/or behavior control.
You will not be responsible for medications nor driving. A parent will always be present. There may be rare occasions where you might be alone with the participant 1:1 in the home. The team has put together a checklist of activities to help you. Work is documented. Hours: Wednesday thru Saturday - day time hours between 11am & 5pm - max. 30 hrs per week. You must have a documented schedule with days and times.
Pay: $20-$35 / hr depending on experience, education, background, and certification.
