JOB
This employee will assist supervisory biologists and other program staff with the collection, propagation, culture, and stocking of freshwater mollusks across the state.Job Duties Include: Assisting in the completion of freshwater mussel, freshwater snail, and potentially freshwater invertebrate field surveys. Maintaining and cleaning the field gear associated with field sites. Ensuring the submission of collected field data into the appropriate data file and natural heritage database.Assisting in the collection and management of data surrounding the propagation, culture and stocking of mollusk species. Assisting in the day-to-day operations of culture related tasks and communicating with supervisor any noticed concerns.Maintaining the sterilization and construction of culture devices and sediments. Assisting in the collection of water chemistry parameters.Attending job-related trainings, workshops, and/or meetings, gathering knowledge that may be useful on hatchery or in the field. Attending outreach opportunities to represent the freshwater mussel program.Assisting in the collection, storage, and maintenance of freshwater mollusk shells and voucher specimens.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
An associate degree in the technical sciences and one (1) year of experience in wildlife or fisheries work; or a high school diploma and three (3) years of experience in wildlife or fisheries work.
