Chapman and Cutler LLP is seeking a motivated Professional Development Specialist to join the Talent Development Department in the Chicago office. The Professional Development Specialist is responsible for coordinating the annual attorney evaluation process while also supporting the overall professional development goals of the Firm as directed by the Director of Talent Development and Diversity. The position requires an in-office presence but includes flexibility for some remote work.
The day-to-day responsibilities of the Professional Development Specialist will include:
- Oversees the planning and execution of the Firm’s Attorney Evaluation process, including:
o Maintains Professional Personnel Committee (“PPC”) report throughout the year
o Coordinates PPC meetings, PGL and Office Leader meetings with the Chief Talent Officer (“CTO”) and the Chair of the PPC, and Joint Partner Review Committee/PPC meetings
o Creates evaluation forms in VI Desktop (mid-year/annual/interim)
o Drafts emails and correspondence from PPC and CTO regarding evaluations and advancement
o Maintains user groups in VI Desktop, makes changes as appropriate
o Creates first drafts of review summaries and alternate work schedule memos as well as other documentation
- Updates and maintains accuracy of several custom reports and distributes reports to the appropriate groups at the Firm on a regular basis
- Accesses the Time and Billing System and “Hank” to compile information on non-partner attorney hours, review relevant hours reports, and export information for reporting
- Oversees attorney retention efforts as well as general practice group support (e.g., schedules monthly meetings, prepares agendas, creates and distributes workload surveys, etc.)
- Acts as a liaison to the data processing department, collaborating on hours reports, prorations, leave reports, and other documents as needed
- Presents Timekeeper Orientation session to all new timekeeper hires at the Firm
- Completes industry surveys as needed (e.g., NALP Attrition Report)
- Maintains non-partner attorney attrition files
- Accesses HRCM system to compile information and complete necessary tasks, including:
o Preparing and distributing materials related to separation agreements
o Completing bar verifications
o Updating staffing models
o Preparing historical compensation information for non-partner attorneys and paralegals
- Designs all internal external: promotional materials, brochures, website content, ads, and similar materials, coordinating with other departments as appropriate
- Drafts, edits, and distributes information for internal Talent Development announcements
- Designs PowerPoint presentations, graphics, and email templates for departmental use
- Creates infographics and other informatic documents
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree. The ideal candidate will have (4) years of prior experience in a professional environment; preference given to those with prior law firm experience.

- Ability to work with sensitive and confidential information, exercises appropriate discretion in sensitive situations
- Proficient with MS Office suite; intermediate Excel and advanced PowerPoint skills preferred
