Ackenheil is a leading Geotechnical Engineering Firm serving the Pittsburgh Area. We are looking for a full-time Civil or Environmental Engineer with at least five years of experience in the geotechnical engineering field.

Responsibilities and Duties
- Execute geotechnical project assignments including engineering analysis, investigations, report preparation, field exploration and laboratory analysis
- Perform filed assignments including site reconnaissance, test boring inspection, and construction inspection.
- Evaluate ground conditions and understand their impact on design and construction
- Perform shallow and deep foundation designs, slope stability analysis calculations
- Develop and manage geotechnical laboratory testing programs
- Review requests for proposals, develop and finalize proposals, and act as division liaison with clients
- Peer review reports prepared by engineering staff
- Regularly communicate with clients to ensure quality of work, exceptional staff performance, and address client concerns and expectations
- Ability to effectively work independently and in a team environment
- Personal vehicle required for travel to office and job sites (mileage compensation)
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor or Master of Science in Civil Engineering or Environmental Engineering with Geotechnical specialty
- Engineer in Training (EIT) is necessary, Registration as Professional Engineer (PE) in Pennsylvania is preferred
- 5+ years of relevant experience
- Experience with geotechnical design, calculations, proposal writing, geotechnical evaluations, recommendations, and reports
- Ability to interact with client and design team during design and construction phases of a project
- Strong background in soil mechanics with extensive knowledge of geotechnical analysis and laboratory testing of soil
- Extensive experience and understanding in the provision of geotechnical engineering recommendations and soil parameters for shallow and deep foundations, landslide remediations, pavements, site preparation and site mitigation
- Demonstrated knowledge of geotechnical engineering software
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Valid Driver’s License required
Physical Requirements:
- Physical ability to perform field and laboratory testing, frequently lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Able to travel per the company travel policy
- Able to concentrate at a high degree in a busy and noisy construction environment
- Able to work in all types of weather
