We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Community Policy Organizer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be committed to making a positive impact on the community through various outreach programs and initiatives.
JOB SUMMARY: The Community Policy Organizer will shape Casa San Jose advocacy efforts and initiatives, working to increase the political power of Pittsburgh Latinx immigrant and refugee community through increasing the visibility of immigrant and refugee Latinx communities and organizations in the state capitol, developing the political understanding of community led organizations, and creating deeper relationships with policy makers and progressive allies. The Community Policy Organizer serves as a member of Casa San Jose advocacy team and will be responsible for engaging with local communities to facilitate participation in various programs, including voter outreach efforts. This role requires a strong commitment to civic engagement and the ability to build relationships with diverse groups. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a flexible and team-oriented approach to problem solving, and be excited about building political power for the Latinx immigrant community in Pittsburgh.
Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
● Develop and implement outreach strategies to connect with community members and stakeholders
● Plan and facilitate community meetings to identify the needs of the Latinx immigrant community
● Organize meetings, events, and workshops to provide resources and information to the community based on their needs
● Collaborate with local, state, and national organizations and partners to expand outreach efforts and maximize advocacy impact
● Recruit and manage volunteers for phone and text banking throughout our Get Out The Vote campaign for the upcoming election
● Conduct voter outreach and provide information on voter eligibility, registration deadlines, and polling information to naturalized citizens and other Latino voters
● Monitor voter registration trends and identify opportunities for increasing voter participation in target communities
● Identify and develop community leaders through one-one-one meetings to map out their desired participation in CSJ campaigns
● Represent Casa San Jose at coalition and partner meetings, trainings, conferences, and events
● Monitor current events, policy decisions and legislation changes
● Maintain and create a rapport with local policy makers to bring forward the feedback from the Latinx community for resolution and guidance
● Provide strategic support to advocacy campaigns within Casa San Jose issue priority areas
Education and Experience
● Bachelor's degree in political science, public administration, or a related field preferred.
● Previous experience in community organizing, outreach, or advocacy preferred.
● Experience working or volunteering with immigrants and refugees is a plus.
● Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
● Computer proficiency, especially with Microsoft Office Suite, G Suite and Salesforce Database.
● Commitment to social justice, equity, and democratic principles.
● Experience leading Latinx community voter engagement efforts preferred.
Skills
● Fluency in English and Spanish (speaking, reading, writing).
● Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team.
● Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage and prioritize multiple, often competing, priorities
● Demonstrated strong attention to detail.
● Demonstrated strong time management and organizational skills.
● Demonstrated excellent judgment with the ability to independently solve problems and make decisions with little or no need for direct supervision.
● Ability for facilitation – one-on-one and in group settings.
● Demonstrated ability to anticipate future needed changes or identify problem areas and take effective actions.
● Must possess excellent interaction, collaboration, presentation, and written and verbal communication skills.
● Knowledgeable about available resources for Latino immigrants.
● Experience with policy advocacy campaigns, particularly those led by and with affected community members.
● Experience working with elected officials at the state, local, and/or federal levels.
● Ability to reliably track and report on project outcomes.
● Uncompromising ability to maintain confidentiality.
