Assistant Director: Experiential Career Programs
POSITION SUMMARY
This role is for a Career Program Assistant Director who will oversee the El Segundo Ednovation Lab, a space focused on innovation and creating excellent career experiences between students and employers. This Assistant Director will facilitate a career exposure program offering students real-world career experiences and skill building, maintain key employer partner relationships, and also support the design of a pilot program focused on preparing students for a trajectory to career placement.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but not limited to:
Student Programming and Partnerships
- Lead the daily operations of the El Segundo Ednovation Lab's student programming initiatives, including:
- Connect High School “Portal” program (career workshops, project consultations, design challenges, job shadows), 2 days per week
- Expansion of programming to other Da Vinci Schools in 2024-25
- Refine and codify student and employer facing career curriculum and materials
- Collaborate with key staff at Da Vinci Schools to deliver programming that supports their existing CTE programming and related initiatives
- Develop partnerships with South Bay area schools to offer programs on alternate days
- Facilitate and manage partnerships with educational institutions and employers
- Act as the main liaison between Da Vinci and Belkin International for aforementioned programming
- Oversee logistics, scheduling, and daily operations of the Ednovation Lab
High-Wage Apprenticeships and Certifications
- Research and integrate high-wage apprenticeship programs to provide students with practical, hands-on learning experiences that lead to financially stable careers
- Develop and support certification programs across various pathways, ensuring students graduate with recognized credentials
Operations and Leadership
- Oversee the overall operations of the El Segundo Ednovation Lab @Belkin International
- Manage budgets and resources for the lab
- Contribute to grant proposals and fundraising efforts as needed
- Stay abreast of trends and best practices in career-connected learning
- Represent the Ednovation Lab at industry events and meetings as needed
- Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders for Belkin site programming (educators, employers, community partners)
Support Research and Design of the LifeLaunch Project
- Support a feasibility study for the LifeLaunch Project, a new learning ecosystem aimed at bridging the skills gap between education and employment
- Collaborate on the design and planning phase of the LifeLaunch Project (beginning July 2024)
- Utilize and manage the Ednovation Lab campus for career certification and college degree opportunities, if/when applicable
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE OF:
- Collaborative, consensus-building approach to management and decision-making.
- Understanding of, and deep appreciation for, the Da Vinci Schools’ mission and culture.
- Program planning and implementation skills.
- Have strong time management and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
- Google Drive and Microsoft suite including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
ABILITY TO:
- Forge and maintain strong relationships with students, staff and community partners
- Be nimble and innovative to ensure relevant and valuable student programming
- Continually improve program, curriculum and experiences based on student and employer feedback
- Budget and manage resources
- Manage the daily operations of a learning site
REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to pass a live scan background check and provide TB clearance.
- Possession of a valid California driver's license is required.
- California Teaching credential and/or CTE Entrepreneurship credential (preferred)
- Work experience in a non-education sector (preferred)
