JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE: Press Brake & Fabrication Equipment Operator
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Welding & Fabrication Foreman, the Press Brake & Fabrication Equipment Operator must be able to perform set-ups on the press brake, fit, bend and fabricate sheet and plate steel, aluminum and stainless steel, inspect the initial parts for quality and maintain quality throughout the entire production process. He/she will also assist other areas of the fabrication department as needed, including but not limited to assisting with the Plama Table, Rolls, Shear, and the material handling of plate and raw materials. All GapVax employees must perform these functions in safe and efficient manner.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Studies blueprint, job traveler, and specifications for set-up and follows sequence of operations noted on job traveler.
- Selects and positions flat, V-block, radius, or special purpose die sets into ram and bed of machine or follows CNC program instructions if applicable.
- Performs maintenance as required on machines.
- Must meet established production standards, and work in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Press Brake Operator must be able to read blueprints typically used in manufacturing operations and be competent at setting up and operating different press brakes to meet the print’s requirements.
- Press Brake Operator is experienced at setup and production runs.
- Press Brake Operator has the ability to adjust machines to maintain dimensional specifications and rework parts as needed.
- Perform operations in an appropriate order to fabricate parts to specifications.
- Operate the press brake to punch, notch, bend, and form material for proper angles and radii as necessary.
- Complete necessary paperwork on inspections and operations. Perform assigned work to time standards and quality expectations.
- Detect malfunctions and notify supervisor of any material or equipment problems.
- Maintain safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
- Perform daily and weekly maintenance ensuring that the machine is calibrated and clean. Replace broken or worn tools.
- Move and stack material as required.
- Perform other duties as required or assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or six to twelve months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
2. Must have experience reading and understanding blueprints
3. Competent written and verbal communication skills
4. Must have high standards of quality and pride in work
5. Must be able to work effectively independently and with others
SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
1. Ability to use standard handtools and powertools
2. Ability to properly operate a forklift/ crane
3. Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and written instructions
4. Operate forklift, crane, hand truck, and other industrial equipment.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Equipment, Tools & Deliveries
- Understand and operate saw, shear, drill press, and plaz
- Perform daily maintenance of equipment
- Operate crane and forktrucks
- Properly handle and unload trucks with designated equipment according to GapVax policy.
- Safely move trucks in and out of shop with proper use of spotter(s)
Cooperation
- Work with purchasing and inventory and to procure needed supplies
- Participate wholeheartedly in the (QA) Quality Assurance program in order to detect production problems, verify BOM, in order to meet quality control expectations/standards
- Present accurate and time and material information to accounting as required
- Work with foreman to fabricate parts
