Primary Purpose:
This individual is responsible for providing accurate documentation and summarization of the ocular examination and recommendations while maintaining patient flow and communication regarding appointment status.
Primary Duties: (*=essential functions)

To accurately document examination findings, proper coding/billing

To complete assessment and plan in a timely manner.*

To ensure proper transmission of electronic prescriptions and documenting chart correctly.*

To assist during the exam such as holding the patients head in slit lamp, instilling eye drops, providing instruments and following directions in a medical emergency. *

To provide appropriate written instructions, and/or printed patient education material.*

To assist and ensure patient understands all instructions.*
-
To maintain efficient patient flow, including monitoring Room Manager and alerting physician to patient related messages.*

To assist patient with completion of forms (i.e. DMV, legally blind letter, PAP)*
-
To assist physician with minor office procedures including laser procedures and proper instrument set-up.*

To audit the provider schedule at least weekly.*

To complete all To-Do messages daily.*

To stock provider rooms daily with instruments, medications and medical supplies.*

To interact and communicate (both verbally and written) effectively and professionally with clinic supervisors, front desk personnel, fellow scribes, technicians, testers and all staff.*

To assist with telephone support regarding ocular emergencies, prescription refills and patient care questions.*

To escort patients to and from waiting areas using patients surname.*

To perform other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements:

High School Diploma or GED
-
Some college preferred
-
1-2 years ophthalmic experience
-
Unexpired certification as ophthalmic scribe or ophthalmic technician

Requires general knowledge of medical terminology, ophthalmic knowledge preferred

Requires ability to maintain strict confidentiality of all patient information
-
Requires strong computer competency including intermediate knowledge and experience with Excel, Word and Outlook (calendar/email), data management programs and the ability to easily adapt to new software applications or data management systems

Ability to walk or stand for multiple hours per day

Bilingual preferred, not required

Requires ability to work well in a team situation or in any other role assigned or at any other clinic site

Requires ability to be productive and manage time accordingly and prioritizing tasks to meet deadlines

Requires excellent spelling and strong organizational skills with high attention to detail

Requires ability to perform accurate documentation within set deadlines
