Position Description: The Construction Training Manager is the primary expert on the construction trades and training and is responsible or running an essential part of the DREAMS program. Reporting to the Program Director, the Construction Training Manager will be responsible for the on-site and off-site construction training and instruction of DREAMS. students enrolled in the construction training track. He/she will be certified in the NCCER and OSHA 10 Construction and will teach both curriculums to students for certification. He/she will devise and implement a 10-month curriculum that prepares students for both the soft skills and hard skills required to be successful in the in the construction industry, and involve outside professionals to work with the students on various skills. He/she will develop strong relationships with contractors and subcontractors willing to allow our students hands-on construction training on actual worksites.
Responsibilities
· Develop and implement a detailed 10-month construction training curriculum and schedule integrating the NCCER Core Curriculum, OSHA 10 Construction training, classroom instruction, construction lab training and worksite training opportunities.
· Ensure that trainees get consistent and adequate hard and soft-skills training to prepare them for the construction trades.
· Set clear standards for appropriate behavior and ways to handle problems on the construction site.
· Instruct students individually and in groups using various teaching methods such as hands on demonstrations, lectures and discussions.
· Plan and supervise class projects, field trips, visits by guest speakers or other experiential activities, and guide students in learning from those activities.
· Stay informed of construction training best practices, as well as trends and priorities in the NYC construction industry.
· Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops to maintain and improve professional competence.
· Identify and cultivate relationships with private contractors or developers who are interested in collaborative partnerships with TBNC and are willing to allow students to gain experience on actual work sites.
· Identify and cultivate relationships with private contractors and developers who may be prospective employers for TBNC graduates.
· Meet with parents and guardians to discuss their children’s progress and to determine priorities for the students and the resources needed.
· Maintain accurate and complete student records as required.
· Select, order, store, issue and inventory construction lab equipment, materials and supplies.
· Attend TBNC staff meetings.
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
· At least 5 years of experience in the construction industry.
· Up to date knowledge of standards and skills for success in the construction industry.
· Certified NCCER and OSHA 10 Construction trainer.
· Experience working with low-income at-risk young adults preferred.
· Strong interpersonal skills; ability to relate to a wide range of issues, people, and institutions.
· Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
· Strong public speaking, listening, and written communication skills.
· Sense of humor and nonjudgmental attitude.
· Ability to work as part of a team.
· Ability to multi-task.
· Ability to work some evenings and weekends.
