Nestled near White Rock Lake in beautiful Lake Highlands, a suburb of East Dallas, the School is centrally located in the heart of Dallas. This 1st-12th grade co-ed school with 150 total enrolled students is marked by a rich and colorful history. With over 50 years of service, Dallas Academy reached a milestone in 2015-2016 by gaining the distinction of being the oldest school in the State of Texas to serve students with learning differences.
TITLE: Middle School English Teacher (2024-2025 School Year)
REPORTS TO: Principal
PRIMARY PURPOSE: The primary purpose of the English Teacher is to provide daily instruction to high school students.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
· Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university in a related field with a 3.0 or higher GPA
· Valid Texas Teaching Certification (preferred)
· Valid Texas Special Education Teaching Certification (preferred)
· Master’s degree in related field with a 3.0 or higher GPA (preferred)
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
· Proof of ongoing professional or educational experience with students with Learning Differences within the field of secondary education
· Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
· Knowledge of Language Based Learning Differences
· Knowledge of multi-sensory teaching approaches
· Knowledge in development and implementation of lesson plans for Literature
· Knowledge in development and implementation of lesson plans for Grammar and Composition
· Knowledge of accommodations for differences in learning styles
EXPERIENCE:
· 2 or more years teaching experience within the field of English (preferred)
· Experience and skilled in utilization of computer/technology-based applications and curriculum, Interactive White Boards, Laptops, etc.
· Experience and skilled with the Microsoft platform and applications (preferred)
· Experience with the implementation of Research-Based Best Practices in the field of Special Education
· Experience with integration of Social Emotional Learning Skills and Executive Functioning Skills
· Experience with Project-Based instructional practices
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
· Serve as a Middle School English Teacher
· Teach Literature and Grammar/Composition
· Teach electives as needed
· Employ a variety of instructional techniques consistent with the needs and capabilities for student growth
· Plan and implement instructional lessons and activities
· Work with administrators to analyze data, interpret and use it to guide instructional decisions
· Keep accurate and complete records
· Communicate with parents through progress reports, conferences, phone calls, and emails
· Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students
· Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook
· Assist in the selection of curriculum books, equipment, and other instructional materials
· Complete training as assigned by the school
Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer and peripherals, standard instructional equipment, and AEDPosture: Regularly required to stand, walk, talk, hear, and write.Motion: Sitting and walking.Lifting: Lift and/or move up to 40 lbs. occasionally.Environment: Work inside and outside and regular exposure to noise and student illness.Mental Demands: Above average degree of concentration and maintaining emotional control under stress.

Performance of this job will be evaluated by, but not limited to, the Principal and communicated to the Head of School for review.
