Job Title: Chief Strategy and Program Officer
Reports to: President and CEO
Position Location: Hybrid Position
Summary: The Chief Strategy and Program Officer (CSPO) works across the organization, partnering on strategy development and implementation, managing cross-portfolio operations, and providing strategic and executional leadership on critical priorities and innovation efforts. The CSPO will lead the alignment of BxCF’s programmatic teams, overseeing organization-wide goals, metrics, and impact. Under the direction of the CEO, the CSPO will operate as a thought partner in planning and operationalizing organizational goals. This position will be responsible for developing and implementing key strategic initiatives, creating systems, tools, and infrastructure building, and developing and managing complex implementation plans, collaboration, synergy, and partnerships. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with experience in program design, program and strategy implementation, development, and engagement of strategic partnerships that bring together a diverse community of nonprofit, corporate, philanthropies, and government partners.
Key Responsibilities: The CSPO oversees all strategic planning for all leadership initiatives, including the Foundation’s community, corporate, and government partnerships and support. They promote advocacy efforts of the nonprofit community BxCF supports to effect change through a system-change lens. Working closely with the Foundation’s President and CEO, staff, and Board of Directors, the Chief Strategy and Program Officer will shape the Foundation’s program strategies and assessment measures, determine staffing and budget allocations, and ensure the successful realization of innovative program design. The Chief Strategy and Program Officer guides the Foundation's strategic vision, communicates the plan to all parties involved, oversees initiatives, and sustains implementation efforts. The CSPO works with the Bronx community of partners and residents to advance the Foundation's mission, resulting in a highly collaborative, effective, and sophisticated change strategy. Strategic Leadership The Chief Strategy and Program Officer will help guide and implement our collective impact vision and strategy. This position will also work closely with leadership and staff to articulate the impact of our work.
Responsibilities will be to:
● Work as the chief strategist responsible for setting strategy and goals for all programmatic and operational activity for the Foundation
● Oversee all aspects of the collective impact strategy, network-building, and convenings.
● Assist in developing operational and tactical plans to implement strategies.
● Identify thought leadership opportunities and activities that place BxCF and its leaders as subject matter experts and leading community advocates within the Bronx, New York, and nationally.
● Support staff and board members to ensure the effective execution of the Foundation’s programs and strategic initiatives.
● Monitor, analyze, evaluate, and improve the effectiveness of the Foundation’s programs and strategic initiatives. Planning, Programming, and Partnerships
● Partner with the President, CEO, and relevant board members to shape multi-year program and strategic plan partnerships and initiatives that build on findings and recommendations from community input and feedback processes.
● Support the President and CEO in leading the organization’s strategic work, including incubating new programs and partnerships.
● Oversee program design and implementation to ensure alignment with the Foundation’s strategic goals.
● Design and lead community engagement strategies to reach and build relationships with Bronx residents.
● Manage cross-functional implementation of all programs and partnerships.
● Cultivate and manage relationships with all existing and new partners. Staff Management, Recruitment, and Development
● Foster a culture of collaboration, creativity, joy, and transparency while prioritizing staff morale.
● Work collaboratively with the team to develop and coach staff to reach their highest potential.
● Identify and offer learning and professional development opportunities to staff.
● Manage efforts of staff, board, and stakeholders to meet annual programmatic goals.
● Serve as a liaison between the CEO and other departments, when needed.
● Directly supervise program directors with a dotted line report structure for the directors of operations and the Chief Development Officer.
● Partner and collaborate with Grants management staff and consultants as needed.
● Determine staffing gaps within the organization to support the Foundation’s success.
● Develop job descriptions and interview/onboarding processes for open positions.
Operational Efficiency
● Identify and implement process improvements to enhance operational efficiency.
● Develop and maintain standard operating procedures for the organization.
● Coordinate and streamline internal workflows and communication. Board Development, Engagement, and Coordination
● Support the CEO on all matters related to the Board.
● Recruit, orient, and train new board members.
● Facilitate regular board meetings, ensuring effective communication and decision-making.
● Develop and maintain strong working relationships with board members.
● Establish and support board committees as the staff liaison in their efforts to oversee the Foundation's strategic vision and program outcomes.
● Coordinate the activities and meetings of board committees.
● Ensure effective communication between the board and its committees.
Key Competencies
● Advanced degree in a related field or equivalent experience
● Minimum of 10 years of experience in program design, program and strategy implementation, and progressively responsible positions in results-based program management
