We are currently seeking a Director of Engineering to join our team at The Inn at Little Washington in Virginia.
Position: Director Of Engineering
The Project: The Inn at Little Washington is a prestigious resort, including a restaurant possessing the honor of being one of the twelve 3-Michelin Star Restaurants in the United States. The Inn at Little Washington is dedicated to providing exceptional service and accommodations to its clientele. The Inn was founded by renowned chef Patrick O’Connell in 1978. His vision continues to provide an immersive premiere resort experience, and his passion for excellence is evident throughout the resort.
Role Description:
This role reports to the President of TMC and collaborates with all on-site executive team members. The Director of Engineering is
tasked with training and leading the engineering team by developing and implementing standardized best practices, capital and
operational budgets, preventative and corrective maintenance routines, and work order systems. This role also manages the performance
of physical and personnel assets and plays a key role in maintaining future resort investments. Maintaining the highest luxury standards in
product finishes, timely remediations, and adherence to standards and regulatory requirements is of utmost importance. This position
manages relationships with all outside service providers, including RFP distributions, bidding reviews, preparations, and contractual
reviews. In addition, the Landscaping and Grounds department will report to this position.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Maintain the Inn’s Holdings to a 5-Star product standard.
Conduct weekly inspections of all areas and take a proactive, preventative approach to this maintenance.
Implement and coordinate orientation and training to build skill levels and competency within the Engineering Department.
Counsel and guide team members on work performance and encourage positive motivation and culture.
Participate in the engineering staffing plan for the resort, working with TMC to locate and screen talent best suited to the
culture of the resort.
Implement and monitor standardized routines and policies for engineering operations, including equipment inventory,
preventive and structured corrective maintenance, work order management, and emergency response.
Schedule preventative and corrective maintenance tasks, complete labor reports, assign work orders and manage department
payroll budgets.
Document and implement safety procedures, including life safety manuals, business continuity plans, safety, emergency, and
standard operating procedures.
Ensure safety, security, and asset protection and preservation at all times.
Maintain disaster preparedness and lead the team responding to resort-related emergency situations.
Supervise the progress of construction projects against milestones and advise the General Manager.
Interact with construction entities to ensure the timely completion of punch-list items.
Develop Capital Budget and framework for Operating Budgets for Engineering.
Assist in outsourcing certain specialized facility functions to enhance the resort.
Support in establishing, documenting, and compiling warranty information for newly installed equipment.
Craft energy conservation plans.
Review financial reports to determine how the Engineering Department is performing against the Annual Budget.
Make ongoing recommendations for efficiencies, cost savings, and operational improvements.
Renew annual certifications to ensure 100% compliance with local and state regulatory requirements.
Ensure all licenses, permits, and certifications are current.
Administer service contracts and monitor third-party projects.
Experience:
Minimum 10 years of experience in Engineering Operations for Resort environments, with specific experience in the
Hospitality Sector preferred.
Familiarity with various functions of Engineering Operations and best practices, such as preventive and corrective
maintenance, is required.
Excellent oral/written communication and computer skills are required.
Organizational and team-building skills are essential.
Proven experience and a solid understanding of plumbing, HVAC, electric, spa and pool utilities, and carpentry.
Ability to provide and receive constructive criticism to achieve operational excellence.
Having a strong attention to detail, commitment to excellence, and embracing continued innovation is required.

Pay: $110,000.00 - $125,000.00 per year
