Job Description
To plan, organize and implement an appropriate instructional program in an elementary or secondary learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop to their full academic potential. To work in conjunction with behavioral health staff to provide a safe, therapeutic environment that meets the needs of all students.
Requirements
Education
Bachelor Degree in Education from an accredited college or university
Special Education preferred
Experience
1 year teaching experience at the level/specialty area under consideration is preferred
1 year experience working with special education population preferred
Licenses, Certifications & Clearances
· FBI, State Criminal and State Child Abuse Clearances, current within 1 year
· Appropriate Teaching Certification from Pennsylvania Department of Education
· Secondary Teachers must have certification from PDE in their content area
· Special Education certification as required by PDE
· Valid PA drivers’ license for position in Bridge Program
Job Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning.
- Develop schemes of work, lesson plans and tests that are in accordance with established procedures.
- Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment.
- Use relevant technology to support and differentiated instruction.
- Works collaboratively with behavioral health staff to:
- Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures.
- Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school.
- Provide appropriate feedback on work.
- Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use information to adjust teaching strategies.
- Maintain accurate and complete records of students' progress and development.
- Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws, district policies and school regulations.
- Prepare required reports on students and activities.
- Participate in relevant meetings.
- Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and student needs.
- Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
- Prepare classroom for class activities.
- Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities.
- Observe and evaluate student's performance and development.
- Assign and grade class work, homework, tests and assignments.
- Obtains and maintains certification in crisis intervention techniques
- Executes physical management of the child/adolescent as needed and prescribed by approved crisis management system and the individual’s behavior support and crisis plans.
- Assist children in activities of daily living i.e. grooming, hygiene, toileting, feeding, etc. when needed.
