Loyola Marymount University will be hiring a one-year full-time Writing Instructor to work in the First-Year Seminar (FFYS) program. Writing Instructors work with First Year Seminar faculty members to introduce students to the spirit of academic excellence and intellectual rigor that guides the community of scholars at Loyola Marymount University. The First Year Seminar is taught by a full-time faculty, who is responsible for the course design and content, and a Writing Instructor, who works with students in various capacities to help develop and refine their writing skills.
The position involves offering writing instruction to 6 sections of FFYS in each semester (fall and spring). Writing Instructors are expected to work approximately 4-5 hours/week per section assigned. Responsibilities include leading regular workshops for students at different stages of the writing process, offering feedback on drafts, and holding one-on-one conferences and/or office hours to discuss writing with them. You will be part of a team of full-time writing instructors who share ideas on writing pedagogy, offer occasional events for faculty about FYS and writing, and advise on writing assessment. You will also have the opportunity to participate in professional development opportunities facilitated by the Office of the Core Director. It is a great opportunity to learn more about the university and develop your teaching skills. At this moment, this position is for one-year only.
Candidates must have a Master's degree at least one year of teaching experience. We welcome candidates from Rhetoric and Composition, English, and other fields.
Application deadline is Wednesday, July 31, 2024. Questions may be directed to Jaedyn.Baker@lmu.edu , Core Coordinator.
