Kritter Kare's Howliday Inn located in Columbia, IL is looking for Dog Daycare Counselors to join our 15-person strong team. We are located on 8802 Summer Road. Our ideal candidate is attentive, ambitious, dependable, hard-working and dedicated to managing a healthy, safe and fun group play environment for our daycare dog clients.
Our Daycare program combines group play and 1-2-1 dog development. The Daycare Counselors oversee a period of group play to ensure all daycare dogs have a happy, healthy & safe time together with other dogs. After these periods of play, the Daycare Counselors will implement our dog development program and participate in one-to-one enrichment activities with the dogs for a specific amount of time.
Our Daycare team typically works from 8:15am-4:30pm Monday-Friday with a maximum of 15 dogs at one time. Weekend shifts are rotated between the team & the hours are 9:00am-3:00pm (depending on the number of dogs approved for group play). We are ideally looking for someone to cover a minimum of 20-24 hours per week (M,W,F with some Sat). Howliday Inn prefers to have a consistent weekly schedule for all staff & likes to have this schedule set for a full month.
This is a unique opportunity to apprentice (at no cost) under a CPDT-KA trainer and expand skill set and knowledge base to pursue a career in the dog care industry.
PLEASE NOTE: As with all team members, a training/probationary period is required. This new hire training can last up to 30 days based on number of hours worked per week. During this training/probationary period, the pay rate will be $14.50 for this position. As soon as training expectations are met & it is determined that the new staff member is the right fit for the position, the new staff member will be compensated at the pay rate listed for the position they were hired to perform. Monthly tip disbursement applied to paycheck.
Requirements for this position:
- An understanding of the difference between working with dogs and loving dogs
- Being comfortable in a hand's-on environment and one's body to correctly redirect dog behavior when necessary
- Being comfortable working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions since dogs need their outside time
- Being alert and ready while remaining calm and focused during stressful situations
- Mentally equipped with exceptional problem solving skills
- A desire to grow in understanding of dog care and dog behavior
- A passion for posting photos/videos on social media and promoting the good we do
- An attention to details and solid communication skills that supports both our clients and team members as needed.
Qualifications for this position:
- High school graduate or GED preferred
- Superior oral communication skills
- Previous work experience demonstrating dependability
- Previous experience providing animal care (personal or job related)
- Self-motivated, independent worker
- Proven ability to follow instructions and learn new things
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Demonstrated flexibility and proven coping skills
