SUMMARY:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform daily food preparation and dishwashing duties in assistance to the cook.
Qualifications:
- Must understand and support the mission of the Daughters of Charity and Vincentian Values as stated in the Seton Employee Handbook
- Must possess personal qualities of integrity, respect for others, good judgment, and good communication skills
- Prior kitchen experience
- Ability to operate kitchen-related machinery and appliances
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize, and flexibility to re-prioritize as needed
- Ability to work with others in a manner that creates harmony and promotes cooperation
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to work flexible hours and weekends, as needed
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Ability to read and understand instructions and safety precautions in English
- High School graduate preferred
Essential duties:
- Clean and set up tables in the dining room
- Prepare ingredients to use in cooking (chopping and peeling vegetables, cutting meat etc.)
- Ensure all kitchen utensils and containers are washed and put back in the proper storage area
- Bagged and hauled kitchen trash to the dumpster and recycling bin
- Maintain a safe and secure environment for all residents, staff, and guests, following established safety standards
- Perform general and sanitation clean-up in the dishroom, kitchen, dining areas, tables, range hoods, sinks, and drains
- Keep the dish room and equipment clean and organized
- Ensure all food and other items are stored properly
- Reports malfunction of any equipment in the kitchen area promptly
- Must be willing to help where it is needed (cleaning, stocking, organizing inventory, etc)
- Other duties as assigned
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:
- Lifting up to 25 lbs. without restrictions
- Walking, standing for long periods of time, maintaining balance, bending, stooping, reaching above shoulder level
- Using knives and kitchen appliances to cut and chop
- Work is performed primarily indoors
- Work environment may be damp, noisy, dusty, greasy and involve the use of cleaning chemicals and food service supplies
- Exposure to raw food products, sharp kitchen implements and equipment and hot stoves
- Sanitation requires wearing gloves and observing appropriate safety procedures in the kitchen
- May occasionally need to respond quickly to urgent situations
- May need to drive
