Job Title: Nursing Staff Supervisor, Red Hook Medical Offices
Laboratory Supervisor
Supervisor: Practice Manager
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervise Nursing employees:
- Orient, train and evaluate nursing staff
- Communicate daily with staff any changes in office protocol/policy, Providers schedule, etc.
- Prepare monthly nursing staff work schedule and make changes necessary to cover staff time off requests.
- Assign daily lunch shifts
- Responsible for handling nursing staff complaints; problem solving these complaints with the assistance of the Practice Manager as needed.
- Report to Practice Manager any problems/concerns
Office Responsibilities:
- Communicate daily with the Providers any concerns or changes they may have.
- Responsible for handling patient complaints; problem solving these complaints with the assistance of the Practice Manager as needed.
- Contact vendors as needed should problems arise.
- Report to Practice Manager any problems/concerns
Laboratory Responsibilities:
- Maintain laboratory CLIA & OSHA status
- Communicate daily with staff any changes in lab policy
- Report to Practice Manager any problems/concerns
Responsibilities shared with Nursing Staff:
I. Medical:
- Perform in-house tests (i.e. urinalysis; strep test; pregnancy test; H pylori; etc.); phlebotomy;
EKG; injections; PFT; nebulizer treatment; dress wounds; suture removal; paramedical exams for insurance companies; drug screenings; complete US Immigration physical report forms, pre-employment drug screenings; blood pressure checks; vitals; vision; hearing and other duties as requested by providers, complete VFC records & reports.
- Assist practitioner as needed.
- Assist patients with prescription refills; follow up on labs/x-rays pending and results; other telephone and follow up as requested by practitioner.
II. Lab
- Download labs, send to ordering provider
III. Inventory:
Daily:
- Stock exam rooms. (Utilize inventory sheet).
- Stock bathrooms as needed.
- Ensure office is clean and presentable at the beginning of the day.
- Stock phlebotomy kit as needed (three kits).
- Plug otoscope in outlets at end of day.
- Check centrifuge to ensure no blood has been accidentally left.
Weekly:
- Fill stock medications as needed.
- Stock medical supplies as needed.
- Inventory; fill; stock liquid nitrogen.
Bi-Weekly:
- Inventory medical supplies, order for supplies with Operations Mgr.
Monthly:
- Inventory Quest Diagnostic supplies. Fax order to Quest. (Include Cruz Bay)
- Inventory drug screening supplies. Call or fax order.
- Change sterile instrument solution. (First of each month) (Lab Tech).
- Inventory and order courier supplies (Lab Tech).
III. Telephone:
- Take messages and professional calls to be returned by practitioners – process according to protocol.
VII. Housekeeping Functions: (Team Effort)
- Clean and vaseline ear syringe once a week. Check daily for cleaning.
- Maintain lab; clean; stock; orderly.
VIII. General Office Duties:
- Teamwork with medical and office staff.
- Communicate office needs to supervisor.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor or practitioners.
IX. Monthly Supervisors Meeting:
- Attend monthly staff meeting.
