Lead Packer

Position Summary
The Lead Packer oversees and manages a crew of Packers to ensure finished printed materials are properly packed for shipment in accordance with customer specifications and carrier limitations. These tasks are accomplished through effective planning, organizing, directing, delegating, follow up, quality control and communication consistent to provide expected results, meeting and/or exceeding communicated Performance Metrics.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
This position is primarily, yet not exclusively responsible and accountable for the following:
- Effectively communicating to their crew of job assignments for the shift.
- Providing positive feedback and constructive criticism to crew members
- Continually monitoring and ensuring the quality standards of the work of the crew members and providing ongoing training as needed.
- Anticipating needs or problems of the assigned packing jobs and taking the necessary action to ensure on time shipping goals are met.
- Identifying all behavior that may be a violation of company policy and reporting the issues on a priority basis to the Manager.
- Taking an active role in leading by example in all phases of packing, training and adherence to the department standard.
- Obtaining and sorting all necessary documents pertaining to the assigned job
- Selecting the proper size carton for packing finished product
- Verifying quantity to be packed form the customer order
- Inspecting materials, products and containers at each step in the packing process
- Actively working with crew members in a hands-on role in all phases of the job.
- Relaying information to the Manager regarding the crew’s performance and individual productivity, and recommending changes when needed.
- Completing administrative tasks at the completion of the job to include:
- Completing the QC Log
- Completing Shipping Label
- Completing Bindery
- Adhering to all Productivity SOP’s, Safety and 6S requirements
- Performing and completing all other work duties as assigned, to include assisting in other departments as needed

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or two to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Basic computer skills are required.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information to one on one and small group situations to customers, clients , managers and other employees in the organization.
Ability to count, add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved instructions from both written and oral communications. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standard situations.
