Director, Scientific Innovation (SI)
Reports to: Vice President, SI
As the scientific lead for internal and client teams, the Director, SI is critical to the overall organizational client experience. Per their experience and skill set, this role is supervisory and will oversee writers as well as support creation of deliverables directly. The ability to plan and strategically create compelling scientific content that accurately informs the end audience is key to success. Additionally, this role requires proactively assisting clients with new strategy direction and leading direct business development of clients from a scientific perspective. This position also collaborates with internal team leads and supports and mentors SI team members.
Essential Functions

Create and support scientifically sound, clinically relevant, and strategically positioned content to exceed client needs
- Lead multiple projects with SI teammates to produce high-quality deliverables

Oversee and guide work by other SI team members, including research into targeted disease states and products and production of on-message scientific content

Maintain medical, legal, and regulatory expertise and support others in achieving it

Initiate, maintain, and expand client relationships and business opportunities on the basis of scientific knowledge, strategic expertise, and company experience
- Scientifically and strategically support, lead, and mentor internal client-focused cross-functional teams
- Develop relationships with external experts and strategic partner organizations as needed to support business vision
- Master relationships with faculty advisors through collaboration on publications, advisory board meetings, and speaker training initiatives

Support business development efforts by leveraging strategic understanding of client products and disease states
- Support other team members in literature reviews and searches, fact checking, and writing reports from notes

Support FORCE as a content and strategy expert to influence and reinforce the corporate vision and direction

Support client work by traveling to live events and meetings (approximately 20%)

Lead and develop SI Managers (eg, coaching, mentoring, developing teams, training, recruiting, checking resource utilization, managing issues and performance)

Assist in resourcing, interviewing, and hiring decisions

Promote and cultivate a positive work environment that allows fair treatment and support of team members as they onboard and grow their career within SI

Routinely report project status and resourcing schedules to SI Vice President to make and adjust
department-related forecasting and decisions

Required Education and/or Experience
-
An advanced science or clinical degree (eg, PhD, MBBS, MD, PharmD, RN, RPh) or a lesser degree with significant relevant experience
- 2 years of experience in medical research, medical education, or medical or pharmaceutical writing

Experience in business development, mentoring peers, leading client-focused teams, and client partnering
- Expertise in FDA and other regulatory guidelines
Client interaction and customer service are integral parts of this role. Periodic travel (local, national, or international) to client sites or events may be required.
