Job Summary
UOC Surgical Services, Ltd. is currently seeking a Registered Nurse with Preop/PACU experience to work in our State College ambulatory surgery center. Candidates must be highly motivated and enjoy working in a fast paced professional medical environment.
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
The Registered Nurse plans and provides comprehensive nursing care in accordance with professional nursing standards, using nursing process, (assessment, care planning, and evaluation), the medical plan of care, and organizational policies. Supports the philosophy, objectives, and goals of the Surgery Center. The Registered Nurse may work in the Pre-operative area, Operating Room, or Recovery Room, based on prior experience and/or educational preparation. He/she may also be cross-trained in other areas as deemed necessary by the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO). The Registered Nurse reports to the CNO.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Coordinates and provides direct patient care.
2. Records vital signs, effects of medication and treatments, in the medical record.
3. Administers prescribed medications and intravenous fluids.
4. Uses judgment in assessing patient conditions, interprets guidelines, and modifies patient care as necessary.
5. Follows established procedures, standing orders, and physician instructions.
6. Assists patients in complying with prescribed medical regimen, and provides education to patients and families, that will promote, maintain, and restore a maximal state of health.
7. Recognizes and determines proper action for medical emergencies, and initiates those measures as needed.
8. Documents and maintains accurate and legible medical records.
9. Adheres to Universal and Standard Precautions, and maintains asepsis in the appropriate environments.
10. Maintains compliance regulations.
11. Recognizes safety hazards and initiates appropriate corrective, and/or preventive measures.
12. Maintains the patient’s dignity, right to privacy, and confidentiality of patient information.
13. Interacts with diverse populations who may be under considerable situational stress.
14. Displays a willingness to learn and accept changes in a fast paced environment.
15. Participates in, and supports the Continuous Quality Improvement Program.
16. Participates in task forces and committees as assigned.
17. Supports the Surgery Center environment by acknowledging the presence and dignity of all with whom he/she communicates, and shows respect to all patients, families, physicians, and co-workers.
18. Maintains equipment and supplies with attention to cost saving measures.
19. Maintains an awareness of and is respectful of the developmental stages/ages of patients served.
20. Displays a team approach when working with fellow staff members to ensure optimal patient care and to promote a positive working environment.
21. Performs other duties as assigned by the Chief Nursing Officer.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Current license in this State as a Registered Nurse.
2. Current BLS certification.
3. ACLS certification mandatory within six (6) months of date of hire.
4. PALS certification preferred within twelve (12) months of date of hire.
5. At least one (1) year previous experience in an ambulatory surgery center or acute care hospital. To work in the recovery room, must have a knowledge of basic EKG interpretation.
6. Mental and physical health sufficient to meet the demands of the position.
7. Intermittent physical mobility/activity including walking, standing, sitting, light lifting, pulling and pushing of carts, equipment, etc. Must be able to bend body downward at the waist: be able to kneel.
8. Competence in oral and written communication.

Pay: $32.00 - $47.00 per hour
