Our client is a consumer facing product manufacturer in need of multiple Design Engineers to support the design of new products and the enhancement of existing products.
Position Summary
This position is accountable for the design and technical rigor within one or more product categories and brands. This individual will be performing design analysis optimization and be performing hands-on prototyping/testing. This position will work across the organization driving and collaborating with functions in Product Management, Development, Operations, Sourcing, and Quality to assure the successful execution of business goals.
- Design / develop components to be manufactured via plastic injection molding, stamping, machining, extrusion and related processes including concept development and prototyping
- Create and interpret analyses to determine suitability of design concepts
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineering staff
- Ensure on-time completion of Design Control deliverables via risk-based decision-making into the design process
- Grow and maintain knowledge current with related technologies
- Work with manufacturing and suppliers to ensure feasibility of designs
- Translate VoC feedback into product requirements
- Create and release engineering drawings, reports, and presentations
- Travel to supplier and manufacturing sites as required
- Present technical findings or project status to cross functional teams and management through design reviews
The following are the key competencies required in the role:
- Fundamentals of Design – Understanding and the ability to apply the fundamentals of design including the appreciation of ergonomics and aesthetics, materials and their properties, and the basics of structural design and machine design.
- Relevant Device Design – Some experience and demonstrated ability to quickly learn design engineering skills including how to translate VoC feedback into product requirements and conceptualize, design, and effectively 3D model customer facing product concepts / components involving plastics, machined parts, and / or forged assemblies.
- Analysis of Design Concepts – Ability to contribute with direction in the analysis of design concepts. (e.g., design analysis optimization, utilizing finite element analysis paired with simulated design of experiments, “hands-on” prototyping and testing)
- Cross-Functional Collaboration – Ability to communicate and contribute materially in supporting the technical findings in design reviews or cross-functional interactions.
- Partner Collaboration - Ability to develop relationships and work effectively with external global manufacturers and / or suppliers to ensure feasibility of designs.
- Technology Knowledge – Demonstrated ability to maintain and grow technical knowledge around related technologies and bring that knowledge to bear on a design process.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $75,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
