We seek a passionate and dedicated Special Education Teacher to join our team. This position is responsible for practices and behaviors that demonstrates necessary teaching competencies, effective classroom management, positive personal qualities, and other instructional matters. The role of the Special Education Teacher is to ensure that all students have equal instructional opportunities and to create environments in which teaching and learning are challenging, dynamic, and comprehensive. The teaching of the essential curriculum of each teacher’s discipline is grounded in the understanding that education aims to grow, develop individual talents, abilities, and values; acquire knowledge; and pursue understanding.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs, including learning disabilities, emotional disturbances, and other developmental challenges.
- Planned and delivered differentiated instruction using evidence-based strategies to meet the diverse learning needs of students in inclusive classroom settings.
- Collaborate with general education teachers to modify curriculum, provide accommodations, and support the inclusion of students with disabilities in all aspects of the school day.
- Provide direct instruction and support to students in small group and one-on-one settings, targeting academic, social, and behavioral goals.
- Monitor student progress through ongoing assessment and data collection and adjust instruction and interventions as needed to ensure student growth and achievement.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation, including IEP progress reports, behavior logs, and communication with parents and team members.
- Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes student engagement, independence, and self-advocacy.
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians to share student progress, discuss concerns, and collaborate on strategies to support student success.
- Participate in team meetings, professional development opportunities, and other school-based activities to support the school's overall goals and mission.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education or a related field.
- Valid Illinois Professional Educator License with Special Education endorsement (LBS1).
- Experience working with students with disabilities.
- Knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
- Ability to differentiate instruction and adapt teaching strategies to meet the diverse needs of students.
- Dedication to advocating for and supporting the academic, social, and emotional growth of students with disabilities.
- Commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive classroom environment that values diversity and celebrates student success.
