The primary purpose of your job position is to supervise nursing care in all nursing units. Such supervision must be in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern our facility, and as may be required by the Director of Clinical Services to ensure that the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times.

1. Direct the day-to-day functions of the professional and nonprofessional staff with current rules, regulations, and guidelines that govern the long-term care facility.
2. Coordinate nursing services with other departments and receive report from off-going supervisor.
3. Ensure that all nursing personnel comply with the written policies and procedures established by this facility.
4. Assist with scheduling as needed.
5. Meet with your assigned nursing staff, and support personnel, in planning the shifts’ services, programs, and activities.
6. Ensure that the Nursing Service Procedures Manual is current and reflects the day-to-day nursing procedures performed in this facility and make recommendations for actions/revision as required.
7. Make written and oral reports/recommendations concerning the activities of your shift as required.
8. Cooperate with other resident services when coordinating nursing services to ensure that the resident’s total regimen of care is maintained.
9. Ensure that all nursing service personnel are in compliance with their respective job descriptions.
10. Provide direct nursing care as needed.
11. Participate in facility surveys (inspections) made by authorized government agencies as may be requested.
12. Periodically review and assist in planning the resident’s written discharge plan. Participate in the updating of the resident’s written discharge plan as required.
13. Interpret the department’s policies and procedures to personnel, residents, visitors, and government agencies as required.
14. Admit, transfer, and discharge residents as required.
15. Complete accident/incident reports as necessary, chart following facility established procedures.
16. Maintain the Daily Census Report and submit to the Business Office as required.
17. Perform administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, charting, etc., as necessary.
18. Develop a working knowledge of the facility’s computer programs.
19. Maintain an understanding of the company’s Personnel Handbook policies and procedures.
20. Report any problem areas to the Director of Clinical Services.
21. Facility tours for prospective families/residents
22. Ensure the completion and filing of the required recordkeeping forms/charts upon the resident’s admission, transfer, and/or discharge.
23. Encourage attending physicians to review treatment plans, record and sign their orders, progress notes, etc. in accordance with established policies.
24. Receive telephone orders from physicians and record on the Physicians’ Order Form.
25. Transcribe physician’s orders to resident charts, cardex, medication cards, treatment/care plans, as required.
26. Review documentation to ensure nurses’ notes are in an informative and descriptive manner that reflects the care provided to the resident, as well as the resident’s response to the care.
27. Make independent decisions concerning nursing care.
28. Review new/changed diet orders. Forward information the Dietary Department.
29. Report all discrepancies noted concerning physician’s orders, diet change, charting error, etc., to the Director of Clinical Services.
30. Fill out and complete transfer forms/ review in accordance with established procedures.
31. Ensure that appropriate documentation concerning unauthorized discharges is entered I the resident’s medical record in accordance with established procedures.
32. Perform routine charting duties as required and in accordance with established charting and documentation policies and procedures.
33. Sign and date all entries made in the resident’s medical record.
34. Monitor nursing staff to ensure medication are given according to facility policy
35. Verify the identity of the resident before administering the medication/treatment.
36. Ensure that an adequate supply of floor stock medications, medication supplies, and medication equipment is on hand to meet the nursing needs of the residents. Report needs to the Director of Clinical Services.
37. Ensure that facility is locked and secure on evenings/nights.
38. Order prescribed medications, supplies, and equipment as necessary, and in accordance with established policies.
39. Ensure that narcotic records are accurate for your shift.
40. Notify the Nurse Coordinator of all drug and narcotic discrepancies noted on your shift.
41. Notify the attending physician of automatic stop orders prior to the last dosage being administered as required.
42. Dispose of drugs and narcotics as required and assigned, and in accordance with established procedures as requested..
