Mission: To provide engineering and technical services in support of production and manufacturing efforts. This position must also support all machine/machining operations by troubleshooting machines, making recommendations for repairs, and overseeing repairs, installations and modifications, ordering new tooling, replacement parts and guarding, etc. in a timely manner. Must have heat treat experience.
Job Duties:
- Oversees and coordinates activities involved in fabrication, operation, application, installation and repair of mechanical, electromechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, etc. systems.
- Activities may involve but are not limited to mechanical presses, PLC’s, machine tooling, material handling systems, industrial production equipment, robotics used in manufacturing, etc.
- Uses computer aided design (CAD) for mechanical design, drawing and detailed reviewing.
- Directs and coordinates fabrication and installation activities to ensure products and systems conform to engineering design and customer specifications.
- Designs and oversees fabrication and installation of machine safety guarding systems including hard guarding, light curtains, interlocks, etc. as well as product testing, gaging, measuring, inspection, etc. systems.
- Coordinates operation, maintenance and repair activities to obtain optimum utilization of machines and equipment.
- Evaluates installations and recommends design modifications to eliminate machine or system malfunctions.
- Initiates and directs procedures to improve and / or increase the output of high speed, high quality operations.
- Serves as an internal consultant for assigned areas with respect to productivity improvement, process efficiencies, and cost reduction.
- Advises staff about programming machines and methods of manufacture.
- Manages technical aspects for the development and implementation of production related projects.
- Maintains up to date knowledge of production related machinery and equipment.
- Assists with equipment specifications, requirements, and purchases.
- Specifies vendors for outside processing (heat treat, coatings, etc.)
- Makes shop drawings as required.
- May evaluate work projects and decide upon feasibility and manufacturing method.
- Promotes safety concepts in all areas, and works to ensure machine safety and a safe production environment.
- Specifies and orders materials, including replacement parts, guarding, tooling, etc. as needed.
- Schedules work assignments to best advantage/coordinate the activities of machine maintenance and other technical trades associates.
- Prepares and distributes various technical reports as required.
- Performs other duties as required.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Masters in Mechanical Engineering preferred.
- Requires specialized understanding of heat transfer, hydraulics, pneumatics, electromechanical, controls and instrumentation, robotics, tooling, materials and fluid mechanics, etc.
- Must have a minimum of 2 to 3 years mechanical engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully interact with all levels and functions of the organization.
- Must possess excellent cross-cultural awareness and communications skills appropriate to a Japanese-owned company.
- Must have strong mechanical interest and aptitude, excellent mathematical skills, and the ability to read drawings, prints and schematics.
- Requires attention to detail, and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Requires the ability to organize and establish priorities, meet deadlines, and prepare plans, goals, and related cost / budget information.
- Requires strong written and verbal communications skills.
- Excellent time management, organizational skills, and supervisory skills are also required.
- Must be interested in a hand's-on position with 50% paperwork, reporting, drawing, and 50% production environment, turning a wrench, observation of areas of responsibility to assess possible improvements in productivity, efficiency, safety (guarding, interlocks, etc.), etc.
Demonstrated proficiency with computers including programs such as AutoDesk CAD/Inventor, MS Office suite, etc

Pay: $80,040.00 - $84,649.00 per year
