Under general supervision, ensures properties within Greenville County adhere to the minimum requirements of the Greenville County Zoning Ordinance and Land Development Regulations. Must be able to provide superior customer service and be able to prioritize and handle multiple active cases at once. Must perform various tasks involving appeals board and court related proceedings. Responds to complaints of County code violations and investigates possible infractions; conducts site visits to determine validity of complaints or to enforce codes; collects, evaluates, records, and preserves evidence; interviews witnesses and gathers information; and takes and files photographs to document violations. Determines compliance or non-compliance with codes; meets with property owners, business owners, contractors, and others to discuss violations; issues code compliance notices and official correction notices; issues citations to violators; serves citations via certified mail or in person; and performs follow-up site inspections as needed. Interprets and enforces the provisions of applicable property maintenance, substandard housing, signs, business licenses, and related regulations, specifications, and standards; provides information and technical assistance concerning code requirements; discusses problem areas with property owners, residents, business owners, contractors and others; make suggestions and recommends solutions to problems; responds to questions concerning code violations; and conducts research as needed. Performs other related duties as required. Performs various tasks involving appeals board and court related proceedings; prepares documents and reports to assist in building and documenting case information; prepares evidence for appeals board and court cases; prepares, submits and/or serves summons, warrants, subpoenas and related documentation; and testifies in court as needed. High school diploma or GED required, with some vocational or technical training in code enforcement; supplemented by one year of work experience that shoes an ability to maintain steady employment in any field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid South Carolina Driver's License. Must obtain and maintain Property Maintenance certification from the International Code Council within six months of hire. Depending on area of assignment, may be required to obtain and maintain additional certifications.
