The Logistics (Import/Export) Specialist will be responsible for the management of the entire lifecycle of ocean and air imports and exports. This position will entail engaging with customers, vendors and suppliers to satisfy the requirements of import transactions.
Duties will include, but not limited to, managing import documentation, handling bookings from overseas agents, handling FCL, LCL and air shipments, customs clearance, communicating with the customer throughout the course of a shipment with updates, using critical problem-solving skills to resolve any issues that may delay a shipment and working with steamship lines and domestic carriers to complete shipments.
Responsibilities:
Enter transportation data from an administrative and tracking perspective.
Ensure regulatory conditions are met, and precise documentation, including transit documents and customs clearances, exists for shipments.
Ensure documentation is precisely processed, distributed, and discharged to carriers, forwarders, customers and agents in a timely manner.
Prepare all significant data entry and confirmation of essential milestones (departure, arrival, customs clearance, PODs, etc.) as specified by Customer Standard Operating Procedures.
Maintain courteous, prompt, and efficient customer relations.
Oversee and complete accurate billing to clients based on established pricing, while ensuring accurate costs and profits are maintained.
Oversee the pick-up and transfer of shipments with appropriate partners.
Establish an understanding of Incoterms and commercial invoice requirements.
Develop methods and procedures for transportation of commodities for appointed shippers from local or offshore locations to warehouses, other storage offices or final consignee locations.
Prepare timely management information and reports as specified and requested by the Branch Manager.
Negotiate shipping rates and submit to Site Manager for approval when necessary to be competitive.
Prepare customs entries and customs bonds.
Develop and manage successful relationships with local vendors (e.g. airline representatives, freight forwarders, customs brokers, local pickup and delivery companies, regional trucking companies, line-haul providers) as well as other co-load carriers.
Establish and manage all necessary procedures to assure a clean, properly organized, safe, and healthy environment for all personnel.
Use established regulatory knowledge to apply classification of HTS/Schedule B numbers, tariff filing, hazardous material handling and any other government agency requirements.
Supports local sales efforts with timely responses to emails and rate requests.
Establish and maintain all vital procedures to guarantee a clean, properly organized, safe and healthy environment for all personnel.
Maintain courteous, prompt, and efficient customer relations.
Manages activities during the order fulfilment and transportation cycle to make sure built deadlines are met.
Continuously review of freight costs to establish cost savings within the supply chain.
Qualifications:
5+ Years Export Operations Experience in Freight Forwarding Industry.
Bachelor's degree in business, logistics or equivalent combination of knowledge and teaching.
Proficient using ERP / Freight Forwarding software (Cargowise 1, SAP, AS400).
Outgoing and forward-thinking mindset with the ability to decode problems in a timely manner.
Knowledge of state, federal, and international applicable laws and regulations as they relate to primary services provided (i.e., customs, security, other import and export government agencies).
Team spirit, autonomous, engaged and reliable, and the ability to coach.
Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion, be adaptable to various competing demands, and demonstrate the highest level of customer/client service and response.
