Position Objectives:
- To support and implement the organizational strategy, engage, and support dancers, staff, and board members, ensure the organization's financial health and to foster community engagement and visibility.
- To ensure the organization's daily functioning is thoughtful, clear, and low conflict, reinforce the organization’s financial strategy, and coordinate between various departments, activities, and individuals.
- To oversee the strategic and day-to-day operations.
Primary Tasks & Responsibilities:
Strategic Planning + Financial Management
- Work closely with the Director of Vision and Strategy, Staff and Board of Directors to refine an incremental strategic planning process that aligns with the organization’s vision, purpose, and goals.
- Oversee the day-to-day financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial reporting.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, ensuring compliance with applicable accounting standards and regulations.
- Monitor financial performance and provide regular reports and analysis to stakeholders.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and optimize resource allocation.
- Conduct financial analysis to support decision-making and provide recommendations for improving financial performance.
- Coordinate audits and financial reviews, working closely with external auditors and providing necessary documentation.
Fundraising and Board Relations
- Oversee the financial aspects of grant applications and reporting, ensuring compliance with grant requirements and regulations.
- Support the comprehensive fundraising strategy.
- Collaborate on effective fundraising campaigns and initiatives.
- Collaborate with the leadership team to set fundraising goals and objectives.
- Maintain strong relationships with existing donors and supporters.
- Explore new revenue streams and grant opportunities.
- Research and identify grant opportunities from foundations, government agencies, and other sources.
- Prepare compelling grant proposals and applications
- Manage relationships with funding organizations and stakeholders, providing financial updates and addressing any inquiries or concerns.
- Maintain accurate records of grants and funding received.
- Oversee donor communications, acknowledgments, and recognition activities.
- Serve as a liaison between the staff and the Board of Directors, attending board meetings and engaging the Board around the company's activities, relationships, strategies, and financial performance.
- Work closely with the Board to engage them in fundraising efforts.
- Provide regular reports on fundraising progress and financial metrics.
- Utilize data-driven insights and performance metrics to evaluate operational effectiveness, identify areas for improvement, and prepare regular reports for the leadership team and Board of Directors.
Operational Management + Community Engagement
- Provide overall management of the organization, including operational activities, production, and resource allocation.
- Work with the SCDT bookkeeper to approve and process payroll.
- Maintain employee and contractor records.
- Manage interns and volunteers.
- Oversee employee and organizational insurance.
- Provide leadership and supervision to administrative staff, ensuring efficient day-to-day operations and adherence to organizational policies and procedures.
- Support the recruitment, hiring, and supervision of staff members, ensuring effective teamwork and collaboration.
- Foster a positive and inclusive work environment, providing guidance and professional development opportunities to enhance staff performance.
- Represent the organization at community events, industry conferences, and networking opportunities to enhance its reputation and build relationships.
- Ensure compliance with all legal, regulatory, and reporting requirements for non-profit organizations.
- Stay up to date with industry trends and changing practices in arts administration.
- -Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and licensing requirements pertaining to operations, health and safety, employment, and non-profit governance.
Booking and Touring
- Manage the booking process from contract negotiation to ensuring all agreements are executed accurately and in a timely manner.
- Coordinate logistics for touring engagements, including travel arrangements, accommodations, transportation, and technical requirements.
- Coordinate and oversee all aspects of tour logistics, including scheduling, budgeting, staffing, and production requirements.
- Act as the main point of contact for touring engagements, responding to inquiries, addressing concerns, and providing responsive customer service to presenters and venues.
- Prepare and maintain accurate records of tour schedules, contracts, financial transactions, and other relevant documentation.
- Evaluate the success of touring engagements, gathering feedback from presenters, and implementing improvements for future tours.
- Stay updated on industry trends, market conditions, and funding opportunities to inform the company's touring strategy.
Marketing and Communications
- Oversee management of the SCDT website.
- Create and dispense the organizational newsletter and annual report
- Monitor SCDT’s social media channels
- Generate the annual report, press releases and other media solicitation.

- Experience in artistic leadership of a performing arts organization.
- Understanding of non-profit management, including financial planning, budgeting, and fundraising.
- Communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage various kinds of stakeholders effectively.
- Ability to think strategically, set priorities, and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of the dance industry, including historical structures and changing environments and expectations.
- Financial management skills, including budgeting, financial analysis, and grant management.
- Leadership and team management abilities, with experience in leading and motivating a staff with varying backgrounds and priorities.
- Communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with artists, staff, board members, and stakeholders.
