Z. Wilson Talent Solutions is currently recruiting Inpatient Coding Auditors for one of our key clients. This position is 100% remote and can work anywhere in the United States. Job Summary:
The Inpatient Coding Auditor audits inpatient charts utilizing proprietary technology in collaboration with physicians to ensure accurate DRG assignments in compliance with federal coding regulations and client-specific guidelines. This role requires extensive knowledge of the compliance structure to support proper reimbursement.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct pre-bill case reviews with a physician to validate diagnosis and procedure codes for inpatient services, ensuring accurate DRG assignment through coding compliance and clinical knowledge.
- Utilize proprietary technology to track coding errors, query opportunities, and collect other necessary data.
- Research, analyze, and respond to inquiries regarding compliance, inappropriate coding, and client denials.
- Demonstrate high dependability and meet coding standard recommendations, accuracy rate, and production standards.
- Collaborate with physicians, peers, CDIS, and management on documentation, policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Work with management to provide recommendations for process improvement, aiming to meet or exceed productivity and quality goals, and achieve operational efficiency and financial accuracy.
- Create and provide group education and training on accurate coding practices, coding compliance documentation, and regulatory provisions.
- Attend in-house training sessions for updates on coding information and regulatory changes.
- Adhere to project deadlines and directives with stringent timelines.
- Ensure strict confidentiality of patient medical records.
- Act ethically and collaboratively, monitoring work quality.
- Code medical records as needed based on organizational requirements.
- Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Associate's Degree in Health Information Management or a similar field preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum of 4 years of inpatient coding experience in hospital facility coding for Level I or Level II trauma centers or teaching hospitals.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience directly related to the specified duties and responsibilities.
- Experience and knowledge in DRG reimbursement (e.g., MS-DRG, APR-DRG).
Licensure and/or Credentials:
- Coding credential from AHIMA/AAPC (RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CPC, or CIC) required.
