Title: Scientist III - Cell Biologist
Location: Silver Spring, MD
Status: Full-Time
Position Summary:
To address rapidly changing program needs across several ongoing research projects within the Division of Applied Regulatory Science (DARS), we require scientists with experience across several different scientific disciplines including bioanalysis, PK/PD, toxicology, immunology, microbiology, cell and molecular biology, mathematical modeling and structure activity relationships to assist with these projects. We currently require a Cell Biologist to assist in projects involving the development of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPS) and novel engineered in vitro systems, such as organoids and microphysiological systems, that have high potential for predicting clinical effects of drugs in vitro.
Duties/Responsibilities:

Developing and validating chromatographic and mass spectrometry-based assays for small molecules in various biological matrices like plasma, serum, dry blood spots etc.

Developing and validating ligand binding assays for various protein molecules.

Produces reports for reliable, sensitive, and validated methods of analyses (prepares, edit, and designate project reports).

Bioanalytical support for the in-vitro studies of the division includes method development, validation, sample analysis and data sharing.

Coordinate the calibration of instruments like HPLC, LC-MS/MS and other laboratory instruments.

Preparation of standard operating procedures (SOP) and protocols for method validation and pharmacokinetic/tissue distribution/toxicity study sample.

Revises existing SOPs and originates new documentation.

Ensures that all work follows all pertinent Standard Operating Procedures, Good Laboratory Practice, and safe work practices.
Minimum Requirements:

Masters degree in bioengineering, microphysiology, cell biology, biology, or a related field

At least four years of experience in research involving microdevices for culturing mammalian cells
- Hands-on laboratory experience in cell and molecular biology

1-3 years of work experience in research labs in academia or industry
- Excellent team work, organizational, communication and time management skills

Ability to multitask, prioritize efficiently and work independently and as well as part of a team
Must be able to obtain/maintain site access.

In addition; one or more of the following competencies:
-
Experience in soft lithography and micromoulding.

Experience with in vitro drug testing and bioanalytics.

Experience in culturing and evaluating the function of hepatic cells.

Skills in differentiating hepatocytes from inducted pluripotent stem cells.
