About the role:
As a Pharmacy Technician at Pharmacia Sana, you will primarily work in the clean room and compound acute.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Compound IV therapies using aseptic technique and following USP 797 & 800 guidelines
- Performs and records various quality control activities including air sampling, bacterial counts, and Sterilization
- Testing. Reports all “positive” results to the pharmacy supervisor immediately.
- May be responsible for cleaning and maintaining Sterile Compounding room and QA as per USP 797 guidelines for a high-risk pharmacy and state law as directed by supervisor.
- Works under direct supervision of a Registered Pharmacist, fills prescriptions and prepares Sterile Compounding according to standards of quality, customer service, productivity guidelines and State Board of Pharmacy regulations.
- May be responsible for staging, preparing, filling orders for residents at long term care facilities.
- Compounds sterile admixtures and non-admixtures, including but not limited to parenteral nutrition, antibiotics, hydration and narcotic analgesics, using aseptic technique where state laws permit.
- May be responsible for data entry and to assist pharmacists with calling nursing homes for refill orders.
- Responsible for maintaining, cleaning and accountability of equipment and pumps.
- Responsible for filing, answering phones, and stocking areas as appropriate and as directed by supervisor.
- Works as the Lead IV Technician and maintains a clean/safe work environment, checking equipment for calibration, safety, and cleanliness.
- Responsible for communicating with Pharmacist or Supervisor with any concerns regarding USP 797 and Operations.
- May be responsible for shipping and tracking compounded packages through overnight 3rd party logistics company.
- Coordinates and schedules the preparation of sterile admixtures and home medical equipment orders with the assistance of the Pharmacist.
- Completes all calculations on product preparation and obtains validation from the Pharmacist before compounding/mixing.
- Prepares labels, prescriptions and compounding/mixing worksheets and completes and maintains product lot numbers, expiration dates and batch records.
- Generates delivery/pick slips under the supervision of the Pharmacist. Picks and pulls supplies and home medical equipment.
- Ensures compounding/clean room areas and related equipment are cleaned, sanitized and maintained in compliance with company policies and procedures and USP 797 and USP 800 standards. Documents all activities on the appropriate logs.
- Obtains supply inventories from patients/clients and communicates information obtained to the Pharmacist as required.
- Adheres to all accreditation, OSHA, FDA, state, local and federal regulations and standards relevant to infusion pharmacy and home medical equipment.
- Performs other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Current and violation free Pharmacy Technician license or certification as required by state law
- 1+ year of sterile compounding experience
- 1+ year of related pharmacy experience in a home care setting
- Successful completion of an approved/accredited pharmacy technician training program; IV certification preferred
- Certified pharmacy technician licenses, required per individual State Board of Pharmacy
- General knowledge of drug terminology, pharmaceutical calculations, drug use and aseptic techniques
- Effective mathematical and communication skills required
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Basic pharmacy knowledge of reading and interpreting prescriptions
- Ability to work independently, accurately and efficiently
- Valid driver’s license
