POSITION SUMMARY
The Instructional Aide provides classroom support to students and teachers. The IA supports the classroom teacher in providing students with appropriate instruction, learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES-
Assist the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing materials or skills based on understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities.

Work with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.

Assist classroom teacher as needed with implementing lessons that reflect accommodations for individual differences.

Operate and care for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes.

Help students master equipment or instructional materials assigned by the teacher

Guide independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher.

Assist with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, and field trips.

Alert the teacher to any problem or special information about an individual student.

Help prepare/organize instructional materials for students with the assistance of the classroom teacher.
- Help to reinforce the safety and order of the classroom.

Assist in creating a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.

Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.

Strive to implement the district and campus philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.

Take necessary and reasonable precautions to protect the students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.

Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct.
- Assist classroom teacher in maintaining order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.

Maintain and improve professional competence.

Participate in district staff development as needed.

Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as needed.

Adhere to district and campus procedures.

Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues.

Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students, parents, and community members.

Maintain regular attendance.

Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS -
Paraprofessional/Educational Aide certification or 48 college semester hours required, no exceptions; Associates degree preferred

Experience working in a school setting with diverse student populations, parents, and other stakeholders.
OTHER POSITION REQUIREMENTS -
Ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into focus; judge distance (close and distant); reach with arms extended and use hands to manipulate the keyboard, smart board and other classroom technology.

Ability to lift/carry up to 25 pounds, including but not limited to: books, paper and instructional materials/supplies.

This position requires frequent standing, walking, sitting, bending, kneeling and/or the ability to be mobile.
- This position may require prolonged or irregular hours.
- Maintain emotional control under stress.
- Ability to travel throughout the district and city as needed by means of personal/private or public transportation in compliance with the states department of motor vehicle and/or public transportation laws.
