Spring Hill Baptist Church (SH or Church) in Ruckersville, VA, is located in beautiful central Virginia. The Church property is twenty minutes north of the University of Virginia and the city of Charlottesville, thirty minutes from Shenandoah National Park to the northwest, and a two-hour drive to Washington, DC. Central Virginia experiences all four seasons and is a wonderful place to live. The area is growing with new commercial sites and residential developments being built within twenty minutes of the Church property. The community surrounding SH is made up of young families with children/teens and senior adults. The largest population group is families with school-aged children. People enjoy living in central Virginia and tend to move into the area and stay a long time.
Spring Hill is a 169-year-old church that started under an Oak Tree. The Church Family is multi-generational, gracious, thoughtful, and very relational. We have people who attend regularly from the ages of four months to 91 years old. SH has a vibrant and growing Children’s Ministry that is touching many lives in the area. The young adult, adult, and senior adult ministries are growing, active, and are a strong presence in the ministries of Spring Hill. The Youth Ministry is in a time of transition yet is lively, active, and focused on helping youth follow Jesus.
We currently have two worship services, many small group Bible studies, strong ministry teams, a fantastic staff team, and an active digital and social media ministry. Spring Hill is praying for and seeking to discover and call a male to serve as our Associate Pastor with an emphasis in Youth Ministry. The candidate will be a committed follower of Jesus Christ, sensed a call from God into ministry, and has a fervent desire to see teens and their parents follow Jesus. He will have the opportunity to build a vibrant, premier Youth Ministry, multiple occasions to teach and preach, be involved in developing disciples, and help the Church accomplish our Vision, Mission, Core Values and Strategy as part of a great staff and working with multiple ministry teams. General Summary
The Assoicate Pastor will have oversight of the Spring Hll Baptist Church (SHBC) Youth Ministry to include identifying ministry opportunities for middle and high school students, and enabling an environment that encourages a lifestyle where students may deepen their faith in and their love of Jesus Christ.
The Associate Pastor is responsible for collaborating with the Senior Pastor, the staff, and theministerial teams in aligning the SHBC fellowship with the mission of the church as presented in the official church documents. The Associate Pastor works alongside the Senior Pastor and staff by supporting and assisting church ministries, community outreach, evangelism, and discipleship. The Associate Pastor must have a demonstrable love for youth and a desire to see their spiritual lives flourish.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
The Associate Pastor will perform duties and responsibilities that align with the mission, purpose, and values of SHBC. The Associate Pastor will:
- Provide oversight and direction for Youth Ministry by reaching out and connecting with youth and their families.
- Coordinate all aspects of the Sunday morning Bible study ministry for youth (6-12th grades)
- Plan and implement opportunities for youth (for example - retreats, Fusion, mission trip, graduation celebration)
- Recruit and train adults to assist with youth ministry
- Develop and support the Youth Leadership Team
- Promote opportunities for evangelism, spiritual growth, and discipleship for students and parents
- Coordinate outreach and community-based activities for both churched and unchurched youth
- Display a Christ-like lifestyle by praying regularly with and for young people in SHBC and the community
- Meet regularly with the Senior Pastor and ministerial staff for planning, evaluating, and coordinating the ministries of SHBC
- Support and assist the ministerial staff in planning, coordinating, and implementing programs related to their areas of responsibility
- Coordinate with the Senior Pastor in planning, preparing, and delivering occasional sermons
- Assist the Senior Pastor in developing and implementing worship strategies
- Assist the SHBC staff to develop programs that connect with visitors
- Provide Pastoral care and support to the congregation
- Perform duties of officiating at weddings, baptisms and funeral services as needed
- Perform other ministerial duties such as teaching, counseling, and visitation as needed.
Education and Experience
This position requires a call from God and a heart for youth. A minimum of three to five years’ experience as a staff member in a ministry leadership capacity is necessary for success.
Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree with advanced seminary/ministerial education and/or equivalent experience is preferred. A heart for youth and experience in working with youth is mandatory.
