The Center for Urban Community Services, a national leader in the development of effective housing and service initiatives for homeless people invites applications for a Social Worker position at 90 Sands.
Located in the DUMBO section of Brooklyn, 90 Sands, the newly renovated 30-story former Watchtower Society building, has 491 units of affordable and permanent supportive housing for low-income individuals, with 305 of these units available to people experiencing homelessness with histories of mental illness and/or substance use. CUCS provides comprehensive on-site social services using a person-centered and recovery-based orientation, which includes evidence-based practices such as Supported Employment, Motivational Interviewing and Wellness Self Management.
The Social Worker provides a full range of person-centered, strengths-based clinical services to a caseload of approximately 15 tenants with the objective to help people live full and satisfying lives in the community. Services include case management, entitlements assistance, counselling, advocacy, referrals and information, crisis intervention, engagement, monitoring, regular outreach, psycho-education, escorting to various appointments within the community, and coordination of care with outside service providers.
The Social Worker is additionally expected to assist in program planning, development and implementation of group services with particular emphasis on mental health, chemical dependency and services to people living with HIV/AIDS. The social worker works in close collaboration with the team’s Clinical Supervisor in leadership of the team to meet contractual obligations and achieve program success while fulfilling CUCS’s core purpose, values and vision.
The social worker will receive weekly clinical supervision that meets the requirements for LCSW hours and will have access to all CUCS agency trainings.

MSW required; LMSW preferred
- CUCS requires that all full-time social workers who provide services within the LMSW scope of practice to be licensed within 6 months from date of hire
- Related experience in the mental health field, and/or working with HIV positive or homeless individuals is strongly preferred
