Oregon Physics develops and markets advanced ion and electron beam products for scientific and industrial applications. We are an innovative and fast growing company with exciting opportunities for career development. Oregon Physics currently has 18 employees and expects to grow to 25 employees in the next two years. Our employees get to work on state of the art products that are transforming industries. We work with a number of advanced technologies including ultrahigh vacuum systems, charged particle optical systems, inductively coupled plasma systems, RF systems, and precise motion systems. Oregon Physics’ Hyperion Dual Polarity Ion Source is a state-of-the-art, industry-leading product for secondary ion mass spectrometry and focused ion beam applications. We are looking for talented and experienced scientists to assist with the develop of the next generation of ion sources and optics.
Oregon Physics is looking for a full-time scientist whose responsibilities will be to:
· Assist in the develop and design of new ion source products. Ion source products typically utilize a variety of specialized technology including precision mechanics, charged particle focusing systems, high voltage design, compact plasma systems, or radio frequency electronics.
· Model the thermal, optical, and electrical properties of ion sources and optics using multi-physics software from Integrated Engineering, COMSOL and other venders.
· Operate a variety of focused ion beam and scanning electron microscopes for micromachining, prototyping, part inspection, and microscale/nanoscale imaging. Oregon Physics currently has a plasma FIB- LMIS FIB dual beam, single beam LMIS FIB, and FE-SEM and is developing a single beam plasma FIB system.
· Operate vacuum based test equipment to test and characterize ion sources and ion optics.
· Read, interpret, and follow assembly instructions, schematics, and engineering drawings to build and maintain ion sources and optics.
· Develop test automation processes using Labview for the control of high voltage power supplies, vacuum systems, motion stages, and measurement equipment.
· Develop processes for characterizing the performance of ion beam sources and optics.
· Utilize SOLIDWORKS software to view and modify 3D models and 2D part drawings.
· Collaborate with scientists and engineers to develop ion beam products.
Position Requirements
- Graduate technical degree in Physics, Applied Physics, or Electrical Engineering.
- High level of knowledge on laboratory practices involving vacuum systems, high voltage systems, RF power, AC power systems, and pressurized gas systems.
- Strong technical understanding of modern ion beam instruments and associated technology.
· Ability to live and work in the United States.
· Experience modeling charged particle optical systems including electrostatic lenses.
- Substantial technical contributions in a key area related to ion system technology including one of the following:
· RF inductively coupled plasma ion sources
· Ion beam extraction from plasmas
· Design and testing of ion optical systems for nanoprobe and microprobe applications.
Additional Preferred Experience
- Experience with ion beam extraction software such as PBguns, Igun or IBsimu.
· Experience with ion beam optics software such as MEBS optics, SIMION, or IES Lorentz
- Experience with commercial SIMS systems such as instruments from Cameca, ION-TOF, and PHI-Ulvac.
- Knowledge of basic electronics including safe practices, electronics trouble shooting, reading circuit diagrams, and soldering.
- Experience with focused ion beam system and dual beam systems from Zeiss, Jeol, FEI, or Tescan.

Pay: $75,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
