Goshen Accounting Services seeks a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Accountant to join our accounting and advisory firm and help us serve our nonprofit clients. The Senior Accountant is at the forefront of financial integrity. They meticulously update and maintain precise financial records, ensuring accurate classification through journal entries and efficient processing of grant invoicing.

Accounting Work Quality Control
- Review and verify the accuracy and completeness of financial transactions recorded by the bookkeeper/accounting specialist, including entries, invoices, receipts, and grant and contract allowable spending budgets.
- Perform reconciliations of accounts, bank statements, and financial data to identify discrepancies or errors made by the bookkeeper/accounting specialist and correct them.
- Provide constructive feedback and guidance to the bookkeeper/accounting specialist to help them improve their accounting practices, accuracy, and adherence to established financial procedures.
- Collaborate with the bookkeeper/accounting specialist to ensure compliance with accounting standards, company policies, and regulatory requirements, making necessary corrections and adjustments.
- Conduct financial audits and internal control assessments to ensure financial integrity and minimize risks.
Accounting Deliverables
- Oversee and manage the grant and contract agreements and budgets, general ledger, and chart of accounts, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
- Record payroll allocations across multiple functions and cost centers in the accounting system.
- Perform bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations, identifying and resolving discrepancies as needed and guaranteeing financial data accuracy.
- Regularly update and maintain precise financial records.
- Prepare and analyze financial statements and grant reports for management's oversight and distribution to clients.
- Prepare and promptly post journal entries, ensuring accurate classification and allocation of expenses and revenue.
- Efficiently review and approve invoices, receipts, and various financial documents.
- Expertly follow up with clients and stakeholders on outstanding accounts payable and accounts receivable records.
- Assist the CFO with variance analysis, budgeting, and reporting to help identify cost-saving opportunities for clients.
- Assist the CFO with preparing and submitting audit and tax returns work papers while ensuring compliance with tax regulations.
- Updating grant tracking projects and providing updates to the CFO.
- Ensure that expenses follow grant funds and that proper categorization is applied to the transactions in QuickBooks Online.
- Applying the revenue recognition procedure and FASB guidelines to record revenue into restriction and release spent funds out of restriction
- Complete bookkeeper work when bookkeepers are out of the office or need assistance.
- Stay updated on accounting standards and industry trends to ensure compliance and best practices.
- Update and implement accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to improve efficiency and accuracy.
- Support the month-end and year-end closing processes.
- Maintain organized financial files and records for easy retrieval.
Skills and Qualifications
- Proven experience working with grants accounting
- Strong knowledge of bookkeeping principles and practices
- Proficiency in accounting and donor software such as QuickBooks Online, Asana, Stripe, Keela, GiveEffect, Donorbox, and Network for Good
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
- Must have three years or more experience working with a nonprofit or an accounting firm handling nonprofit clients
- Must be able to commit to up to 20 hours per week and complete two weeks of mandatory training
