PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Reporting to the Associate Deputy Executive Director of Nursing, the DON of Nursing Professional Development Is responsible for the coordination of orientation and ongoing training of the staff, evaluating the quality of care rendered In the Department of Nursing, as well as for the Implementation of the Nursing Department philosophy and objectives, ensuring compliance to established standards of nursing practice as promulgated by regulatory agencies and professional nursing organizations.
The DON Is Involved in the day to day operations of the Nursing Professional Development to ensure that educational programs and training Initiatives are rendered. The DON will have a collaborative relationship with Nursing Leadership, NPD educators, the medical staff and various disciplines of the health care team.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The DON provide oversight, coordinate and facilitate service-based orientation programs, in services and continuing education programs for Incumbent staff, training for new equipment, policies ·and procedures, quality Improvement activities and assist In the evaluation process of staff.
Besides the teaching-related responsibilities, the Director of Nursing for Nursing Professional Development, performs the following:
1) Provides oversight on all educational programs for licensed and unlicensed staff.
2) Identifies essential competencies for licensed and non-licensed staff within the Department of Nursing and assures appropriate educational opportunities exist to promote the growth and the development of staff.
3) Participates as an active member of the Policy & Procedure Committee
4) Participates In clinical service committees, lnterdlsclpllnary meetings and task forces.
5) Provide oversight for educational academic affiliations
6) Supports and oversee educational requirements for accredited programs such as Trauma, TJC.
7) Assume leadership role In identifying opportunities for improvement, defining goals and developing·solutions.
8) Serve on committees and attend meetings as requested.
9) Facllltates the Initiation and adoption of changes In nursing practice and organization.
10) Assists the staff, middle management group and other disciplines for consultation on role development, development of policies and procedures, protocols and standards, job performance and clinical, educational and leadership activities.
11) Assumes responsibility for planning, directing, organizing and evaluating programs of orientation, training and continuing education for nursing personnel.
12) Develops·,plans, coordinates, directs and evaluates assigned projects and programs.
13) Develops educational/orientation programs, processes and policies, which are congruent with all policies, regulatory requirements and nursing standards of practice.
REQUIREMENTS
1. Current/Valid New York State RN License
2. A Master's Degree In Nursing Administration or Education or a higher field of study with a minimum of six years of satisfactory nursing experience, of which four years shall have been In a supervisory, teaching or administrative capacity.
3. Awareness of the current established standards of nursing practice as promulgated by professional organizations such as: ANA, AACN, ENA, ANPD, The Joint Commission & other Regulat9ry Agencies.
4. BCLS Instructor and/or ACLS Instructor certification or commitment to obtain one within a year.

Pay: $180,000.00 - $190,000.00 per year
