Atlas Surgery Center/Southwest Eye Care is currently hiring for a casual Registered Nurse for our Ambulatory Surgery Center in Chaska.
The ASC Registered Nurse is responsible for the delivery of optimum quality care to patients while in all clinical areas of the Surgery Center. The Registered Nurse assists in performing nursing tasks for patient care, acting as a liaison between the physician and the patient.
Essential Functions:
- Responsible for completing pre-operative phone calls, H&P (History and Physical) reviews, and providing appropriate admission requirements/instructions
- Complete, accurate, legible, and timely documentation of all patient care delivered at the Surgery Center as indicated per policy.
- Monitors patients utilizing sound nursing judgment, and competent knowledge of equipment based on policies and procedures during patient admission.
- Assesses the psychological, physiological & spiritual needs of patients and provides care accordingly and in an age appropriate manner for patients.
- Evaluates and documents patient condition and responses to nursing and/or medical interventions and communicates the information appropriately.
- Assesses patient needs and supplies and equipment required for pain management procedure, patient needs, and physician preferences.
- Responsible for completing post-operative phone calls, providing care and direction as appropriate.
- Collaborates with other disciplines and departments to maximize patient outcomes and ensure a smooth flow of the preoperative experience.
- Functions within the limits of the MN Nurse Practice Act, State and Federal Laws, the ASC, Pre-op/PACU Department philosophies, policies and procedures and standards of care.
- Labels and administers medications and solutions as ordered. Applies principles of aseptic technique, standard and transmission precautions.
- Provides emotional support and comfort for patients/family members, informs family of patient status, and provides patient and family education.
- Follows proper channel of communication and informs leaders of unit activity, patient condition and concerns.
- Reassess, evaluate, and revise the implementation of the plan of care to meet the changing needs of the patient. Respond appropriately to changes in the patient’s condition and/or behavior.
- Participates in acceptable continuing education, fostering career and skill development including meeting departmental continuing education requirements.
- Assists in managing controllable costs by the proper, non-wasteful use of surgery center resources.
- Assists with shipment unpacking, stocking, etc.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Completion of an accredited training program for Registered Nursing
- Licensed as a Registered Nurse by the State of Minnesota
- BLS/ACLS certification
- Six months (1040 hours) practical nursing experience
Ability to:
- Comply with company policies, procedures, practices and business ethics guidelines.
- Complete job required training.
- Comply with all applicable laws and regulations, (e.g. HIPAA, Stark, OSHA, employment laws, etc.)
- Demonstrate prompt and reliable attendance
- Work at an efficient and productive pace, handle interruptions appropriately and meet deadlines
- Communicate and interact in a respectful and professional manner
- Prioritize workload while being flexible to meet the expectations of the daily operations
- Help patients dress/undress
- Collect urine samples for pregnancy testing
- Perform Glucose Testing
- Work independently with minimal supervision
- Make and receive phone calls on behalf of the provider(s)
- Ability to read, write and communicate effectively orally and in writing
- Proficiency in the operation of a computer and other office equipment
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time; push, pull and reach; occasionally bend, stoop and stretch, ability to lift 50lbs.
- Ability to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator and other office equipment
Location/Schedule Details:
- Casual status. Hours range between 7am-3pm Tuesdays & 6am-2pm Thursdays. Will need to pick up a minimum of at least 2 shifts a month (preferably Thursdays).
