Staff Registered Nurse provides care appropriate to the age and the specific needs of adult and/or geriatric patients with psychiatric illnesses. Determines nursing and/or recovery diagnosis based on nursing assessment; develops and implements the Personal Recovery Plan (PRP) for each patient served. Documents patient care and communicates changes in the patient's behavior, signs, and/or symptoms to appropriate staff. Demonstrates and performs essential functions and skills: obtains patient vital sign data, administers medications, provides treatment, collects specimens, and responds to psychiatric and medical emergencies. Provides education to patients and families. Leads and manages staff when performing in the charge nurse role, including but not limited to making patient care assignments, monitoring patient flow, providing input the Unit Manager regarding the performance of other staff, etc. Provides nursing reports, identify unusual occurrences, etc., as policies require. Participates in committees and councils. Collaborates with patient, families, and staff to ensure patient needs are met. Oversees the practice of non-licensed staff and ESH Licensed Practical Nurses, and provides direction along with delegation of tasks, with appropriate follow up. Coordinates the evaluation and admission process. Participates in Performance Improvement activities.
Associate Degree in Nursing from NLN accredited program required. BLS Certification Required. American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing Certification is preferred. No nursing experience is required. The employee shall become familiar with HIPAA regulations and do their utmost to protect all protected health information (PHI) and other personal or sensitive information within their trust in the course of state business by applying appropriate safeguards and sharing only the information required to deliver agency services. Any personal or sensitive information overheard or seen by the employee will be kept confidential by not sharing it with others, on or off the work-site grounds. Fully participate in all activities regarding the elimination of the use of seclusion and restraints in patient care including educational requirements, competency development activities, and meeting established performance goals and measures. Must have computer competency in approved systems. Must have excellent customer service skills.
