Job Overview:We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Customs Affairs professional to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in compliance management, supply chain, and regulatory reporting.
Responsibilities:
- Customs Relations: Establish relationships with CBP, CES, CFS, and Customs City to expedite clearance and maintain positive customs authority relationships. Communicate with internal stakeholders (operations, business departments) and external parties (customs, brokers, suppliers) to coordinate customs activities and resolve issues.
- Compliance and Legality: Ensure adherence to Customs and Border Protection (CBP) policies, including tariff classification and documentation. Oversee customs processes to ensure regulatory compliance and identify improvement areas. Update all departments on CBP and port-specific T86 declaration rules to ensure timely client feedback and compliance.
- Documentation: Submit required documents (e.g., customs forms) accurately and on time. Maintain orderly, up-to-date records for audit purposes.
- Customs Clearance: Facilitate goods clearance through customs, resolving issues to reduce inspection rates. Simplify customs processes and coordinate with brokers and customs authorities to resolve issues, such as customs holds, etc.
- Issue Resolution: Address discrepancies or issues during customs clearance, such as missing documents, inspections, or tariff disputes. Collaborate with relevant parties to resolve issues promptly and effectively.
- Risk Management: Prevent and manage international trade risks, such as audits, seizures, or compliance issues. Stay updated on regulatory changes, review documents thoroughly, and implement internal controls to minimize disruptions and losses.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in customs affairs, logistics, or related field
- Familiarity with AMS systems (e.g. Customs City)
- Familiarity with FDA regulations and compliance standards
- Experience in regulatory reporting and maintaining compliance records
- Proficiency in air cargo import practices
- Ability to manage risk effectively in customs affairs processes
