Our fabulous, fun, progressive, and LGBTQ+-friendly UCC church is looking for a Facilities Manager!
Under the direction of the Pastors and the Office Manager, the Facilities Manager will clean and maintain the church building such as; taking out trash, cleaning floors, tidying, cleaning bathrooms and kitchen.
They will also do projects around the church such as painting, minor repairs, and maintenance on the church building and the abutting parsonage. Our Facilities Manager will also work with contractors and inspectors on building construction and repair projects. They will also help us maintain good communication with our primary renters (Somerville Homeless Coalition) and help us transition between the multiple uses of our space, especially on Sunday morning.
Qualifications
We are seeking a candidate with a background in janitorial and facilities maintenance. Experience with minor repairs, painting and plumbing preferred. Working on Sunday morning from 8am-2pm is mandatory, other weekly hours are flexible.
Necessary Skills
Basic custodial skills
Cleaning wood, linoleum, tile and other floors
Vacuuming rugs and carpets
Dusting/disinfecting all surfaces
Cleaning Bathrooms
Maintaining a thorough inventory of new cleaning supplies, ordering as needed
Using equipment, commercial vacuums, floor buffers and carpet cleaners
Collecting and taking out trash and recycling
The ideal candidate will be self-directed, skillful at project management, and able to prioritize tasks and work with contractors.

RESPONSIBILITIES (include, but are not limited to):
Administration
- Work closely with the Pastors and Office Administrator
- Attend staff meetings, as needed, and communicate building needs to supervisors.
- Maintain up-to-date inventory on building equipment, including inspecting rooms for wear and tear, water damage, etc. and reporting building needs to members of staff and the Buildings and Gardens (B&G) committee.
- Order cleaning supplies, sanitizers and paper goods, as needed
- Project coordination and management of repairs and associated contractors for more significant projects for our physical spaces
Building
- Keep entrances and rooms free of debris and clutter
- Clean restrooms and kitchen and ensure they are kept clean and sanitary and that supplies are well stocked.
- Dust surfaces and water plants, as needed.
- Monitor lighting and replace bulbs, as needed.
- Paint and maintain finishes, as needed
- Clean windows, walls and door knobs, as needed
- Monitor air conditioning units, thermostats, and boiler to make sure that building is heated and cooled properly to ensure conservation of energy
- Set up/take down chairs and folding tables in rooms, as needed
- Close and lock doors after special events, ensuring that the building remains secure.
- Perform simple maintenance tasks on boilers under the supervision of the Buildings and Gardens committee.
- Do simple repair tasks, as needed.
Grounds
- Sweep sidewalks and keep grounds clear of debris and clutter.
- Mow lawns, and use trimmer or edger to trim the border of sidewalks and areas around fences and shrubbery.
- Keep contents of outside sheds neat and orderly. Advise Buildings and Gardens committee of needs for grounds maintenance and improvements.
- Put trash and yard waste receptacles at the curb on designated days for refuse collection.
- Light snow shoveling and clearance - the main snow removal is completed by a contractor.
- Sand slippery areas of sidewalks and exterior stairs.
Project Supervision
- Partner with B&G to solicit bids for contractor work and handle documentation and follow-ups.
- Project manage schedules and regular check-ins with contractors, reporting back to B&G/Church Leadership/Staff.
- Document work completed and work still to be done as it relates to contractors.
- Working with the Office Administrator, facilitating third party vendor management for building work (snow removal, lawn care, electricians, heating, inspections, etc.).

Pay: From $25.00 per hour
Expected hours: 18 per week
