Ellis CPA Firm PC is looking for a candidate with a strong background in accounting, tax preparation (1065, 1120, 1120S) and tax planning for business owners. The ideal candidate will have EA or CPA certificate or has completed all necessary testing. This is a full-time position, but the hours can be structured to meet the candidate’s desired schedule once they have completed the first few months of training.

How you will contribute:
Reporting to the Tax Manager, you will support the tax team responsibilities to comply with federal, state, and local tax filing and payment requirements, review returns, research tax issues, respond to notices, prepare current year estimated tax liability projections and tax planning, and correspond and meet with clients. For the right candidate this would be a split role performing both tax preparation and monthly accounting work. You ou will support the bookkeeping team responsibilities to complete bank reconciliations, sales tax filings, payroll tax processing, and financial statement preparation.
Responsibilities will include:
- Preparation and review of complex federal and state income taxes for businesses and individuals
- Oversee technical accuracy of work performed
- Participate in tax planning and tax strategy meetings and development
- Research, respond, and resolve various tax issues and tax notices from routine to complex from states and IRS
- Maintaining and updating tax workpapers
- Perform tax research and monitor changes in tax law and rates and determine applicability to clients
- Identify and mitigate tax risks
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts.
- Perform month-end and year-end closing processes, including journal entries and financial statement preparation.
- Conduct account analysis and reconciliations.
- Process and monitor fixed asset transactions, including acquisitions, disposals, and depreciation calculations.
- Ensure compliance with accounting policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather financial information and resolve discrepancies.
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting activities.
- Work directly with the clients via meetings, telephone, text, and email
- Involved in understanding our technology and tax processes
- Attend and participate in internal meetings and complete required trainings
- Willingness to take on additional responsibilities as needed

The Must Haves:
- Enrolled Agent or CPA license
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field
- 2+ years’ experience in taxation
- Preparation experience of federal tax returns for corporations and partnerships
- Knowledge of tax accounting and tax compliance
- Experience utilizing tax technology solutions
Assets:
