Job Description
The Inside Sales Representative (Assistant Level) will focus on customer outreach to drive sales in the areas of farm store retail chains, hardware store chains, and hyper-market chain stores. This position involves calling on existing customers, stagnant customers, following up on leads and some cold calling based on research within our markets. They will relationship build with the customers and manufacturers’ representatives. Update key contacts/information and share our product offerings. Work with our customers to define their needs and connect them to the appropriate internal or external team and ensuring follow-through by motivating others. Energetic, well-spoken, and eager to share company product and increase customer awareness. Must be willing to learn an extensive product line and work with the experienced sales team. This position has room for growth.
Role and Responsibilities
· Answer customer’s questions about products, prices, availability, product uses and terms.
· Consult with clients after sales or contract signing to resolve problem and to provide ongoing support.
· Contact regular and prospective customers to demonstrate products, explain product features and solicit orders.
· Estimate or quote prices, credit or contract terms, warranties, and delivery dates.
· Identify prospective customers by using business directories, in-store comparisons, following leads from existing clients, participating in organizations and clubs, attending trade shows and conferences. Travel is required.
· Monitor market conditions, product innovations, and competitors’ products, prices and sales.
· Negotiate details of contracts and payment terms as well as resolve payment disputes.
· Negotiate with retail merchants to improve product exposure, such as shelf positioning and advertising.
· Obtain credit information about prospective customers.
· Perform administrative duties, such as preparing sales budgets, reports, keeping sales records, and filing expense account reports.
· Plan, assemble and stock product displays in retail stores, or make recommendations to retailers regarding product displays, promotional programs, and advertising.
· Prepare drawings, estimates, and bids that meet specific customer needs.
· Prepare sales contracts and order forms.
· Provide customers with product samples and catalogs.
· Recommend products to customers, based on customers’ needs and interests.
· Train customers employees in the use of Stearns Packaging products.
· Attend and assist with new store sets, resets and grand openings as requested by retail accounts.
· Provide support and oversight to independent sales representatives assigned to retail and automotive accounts.
· Oversee the design and proof of retail labels and literature.
· Write marketing copy.
· Coordinate ISSA-The Worldwide Cleaning Industry Association trade show booth and national sales meeting.
· Resolve mid-level and end-user issues.
· Provide back-up for technical assistance questions.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
· Bachelor’s degree
· 2-4 years of sales experience
· Valid driver’s license
· Satisfactory driving record
Preferred Skills
· Data entry experience (10-key), Typing of 30 words a minute.
· Microsoft office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) Note: Microsoft Dynamics GP training provided.
· Basic math skills with a focus on costing and margins.
· Use of standard office equipment.
· Dairy and/or agricultural background helpful.
· Experience in the soap and detergent industry helpful.

Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. It also requires entering a factory environment to check on orders and shipments. It requires travel to sales meetings, stores and tradeshows. Overnight travel and some weekend work. Professional suiting attire during sales presentations, business casual dress in office.
