Compensation:
- Annual Salary Range: $60,000 to 80,000 Per Year
- Hourly Pay Range: $28.85 – $38.46 Per Hour

This position is located at the Kansas Department of Agriculture Headquarters in Manhattan, KS.
Position Summary & Responsibilities:
This position supports the Kansas Secretary of Agriculture and Executive Team with economic and policy-related research and analysis. This includes developing briefs on current events, preparing weekly updates notating market status, commodity considerations, domestic and international trade news, and key industry information to be used by KDA Executive staff. Serve as an economic resource for internal KDA Divisions and community economic indicators agency wide.
This position performs value analysis of Kansas agricultural economy documenting state, county and local-level impacts. Support domestic and international agribusiness development initiatives with economic and data development reporting. Utilize economic modeling software such as IMPLAN or others to develop relevant economic impact reports. Track and report Kansas commodity export activity vis USDA, Euromonitor and other relevant reporting outlets.
This position serves on the Kansas Department of Agriculture’s Legislative Team as a policy expert. Analyze impact of current and proposed policy changes and legislation as to the economic impact on the Kansas agriculture sector and/or state as requested. Conduct policy-related research to support impacts.
This position generates annual Kansas Farm Facts resource and other public-facing resources. Partner with USDA Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS), National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), Hay and Sunflower Reporting and Livestock Market Reporting to generate data and statistics relevant to the Kansas agriculture sector. Lead internal and external survey development, administration, and promotion of findings.
This position administers agency managed programs including but not limited to the Commodity Commission Petition and Election process in collaboration with KDA Legal and Communications team.
This position has managerial responsibilities to oversee four direct reports and one intern.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Economics, Economics, or Finance required.
- 3-5 years of experience in an analytical position with a bachelor’s degree or 1-3 years of experience in an analytical position with a master’s degree.
- Demonstrate experience with modeling and analytical software/programs.
- In depth knowledge of and connectivity within the Kansas agricultural industry.
- Ability to set daily work priorities, accomplish tasks and projects within a defined timeframe and exhibit pride in work output.
- Attention to detail, accuracy in reporting and development of reporting rationale supporting data development is required.
- Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills and possess evidence addressing groups and/or media inquiries.
- General knowledge of the Kansas Legislature.
- Employee must have a valid Class C (or higher) Kansas driver’s license or equivalent license from another state. Employee is responsible to maintain an acceptable driving record to safely drive state vehicle and be willing and able to fulfill all job-related travel normally associated with this position.
