The Cottage Shop Manager plays a critical role in this evolving organization, which has strong roots in Houston and a compelling vision for the future. You will be responsible for planning, directing, and organizing shop operations to meet sales targets which are vital to generating revenue in order to continue the mission. In addition, you will work closely with clients, volunteers, and the program team. The ideal candidate will demonstrate passion for the mission, exemplary organizational skills, strong interpersonal communication skills, professional discretion with confidential information, and the ability to take initiative. A can-do positive attitude, sense of humor and resilience are strongly valued attributes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Resource Development/Management:

Develop an annual business plan with monthly targets for performance goals.

Verify end-of-day bank deposits and cash drawer reconciliations.

Manage donations, pickups, and consignment boutique relationships.

Maintain daily and monthly sales reports.

Organize special events, procure shop supplies, and collaborate with community partners.

Participate in administrative and development meetings, updating policies as needed.

Foster customer relationships and provide sales analysis for strategic planning.
Volunteer and Resident Management:

Train and supervise volunteers for front and back-of-house roles, ensuring professionalism.

Collaborate with the volunteer coordinator to create job descriptions and maintain records.

Oversee resident training in sales, merchandising, and daily operations.

Coordinate with the Vocational Department for job training and evaluation.

Prepare job descriptions for residents.
Other Responsibilities:

Schedule staff coverage for the back room, sales floor, breaks, and time off.

Approve staff timecards and ensure performance goals are met.

Participate in staff, intern, and volunteer training.

Attend volunteer committee meetings and agency activities.

Participate in client award banquets and optimize sales and client care with assigned duties.
Qualifications:
- Self-motivated with 3 years of retail management experience, including point-of-sale systems.
- Preferably strong sales and marketing background.
- Demonstrated supervisory, leadership, and interpersonal skills with diverse backgrounds.
- Effective in engaging with residents, volunteers, and customers.
- Proficient in recruiting and working with volunteers.
- Tactful, with computer skills and social media experience.
- Skilled in coordinating and executing special events.
- Culturally sensitive with a focus on maintaining professional boundaries.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
Must be able to sit, stand for extended periods of time, bend, stoop and lift up to 40 lbs.
